They are junk, super high spin, the stock shafts are weak. They are made for people with bad swings. The tour issue TM clubs are totally different. Callaway, Ping, and several other brands, however, release their tour clubs to the public.

lol...seriously, do you walk on water?

Yea those off the shelf R9's...complete crap. Seriously, anyone here who's got one off the rack, you might as well just pack it in...i'm sure your shaft is cracking in your bag as we speak from the weight of the clubhead. To the OP, practice hitting irons, short to long using 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 practice to get a better feel for your ball striking...then work to your driver emphasizing a smooth stroke, at 50, 75 and then 90 percent...your striking should improve

Those high spin drivers are for people who don't have the club head speed to get there max carry. The concept behind those is tons of carry little roll.

Hey guy don't sweat it, i got ripped for being able to hit it past 280 yards consistantly, i am cool with there rants. I know how far i hit it. I have GPS'd it, i have hit 300 yard par 4's in my life. I have hit a 330 yard all carry bomb at Firestone Country club, north course last year. I got 3 guys who will verify it. We know because we played after it rained a few days and my ball backspun out of the ball mark in the fairway. I get one of those every few years when i really jack one. But lets get off this subject, more swings to come later, more discussion about how we are all wrong.

I had the same issue for a while, it comes with the territory of trying to be a good diver, you get really flat with your iron swing. Once you hone your swing, it will naturally change with the length and lie of the irons you have, your body with adapt to it. Just keep practicing, and getting a good swing down.

They probably shouldn't though - some guys (like the OP) think they can handle tour drivers. I think he posted in another thread that he's actually using a TM Tour issue driver - foolishness.

U guys are making me feel ashamed to say how far I hit it.

WildCorndog, look for the actual substance to what people say on this site and forget the bs...if you know you hit it a certain distance, f what they say on here. good ball striking on your irons will carry over to your ball striking with your driver, it can take time. if you have distance, you're ahead of the ballgame...greater ball striking will give you the best of both worlds after you get both going you'll drop that handi with no problem

What are you talking about? Taylor Made drivers are not junk.

Super high spin = junk? Since when. And EVERY OEM stock shaft is weak. Ill-fitted for me, yes, but far from junk, my SuperQuad has lasted me 4 years and hasn't quit yet.

Their

pro drivers are good (I hit one today actually), but even those are not my favorite. I'm just a little anti TM lately, with all their BS marketing. Our pro has a tour burner, nice club, X shaft, and I hit it today. No real feel to it, but it does actually have a good spin rate, unlike their off the rack driver. It stays nice and low, and although I was catching it off center (a little toward the heel), it flew OK. Adams, on the other hand, has been good about marketing both pro and amatuer type drivers. The Insight came in both a regular, and OS model. The OS was offset, and had a more forgiving, higher spin head. The pro models were just beautiful, super low spin, awesome feel, you can just feel the face rebound when you catch it center.

I never liked how the burner drivers look. I can't stand those weired looking drivers, i am a traditionalist. I love my G10, but hear the new Ping driver tour model is just a monster.

You guys missed my sarcasim....every commercial promotes how Taylor Made is the longest and straightest out there.

Gioguy21 actually traded me his Cleveland and Im much more consistant than I was with my Callaway FT-5.

    • That’s totally fair. I have my chipping issues which make my putter more playable in that situation. Really just confirming that while not optimal there comes a point where if you need to use a putter (for whatever reason) then the optimal mechanics breaks down. I know I’m a sample of one. 😂
    • Day 329 - 2025-08-26 Hit 24 balls before lessons and JEP Summer Session. With the MP-33. 🙂 Put an undersized grip on my VR Pro accidentally.
    • Well, that's not really a putt at that point. You could easily choose to putt that up the slope with a hybrid or something.
    • Day 15 (August 26).  I missed practice yesterday, but otherwise had a 14-day streak going into it.  Somehow, some of my posts for this appear in my profile but I can't seem to see them (I hope I didn't break any rules that would cause them to be removed).  I am hoping I'll be able to keep doing some practice while I'm out to regain the red text.  Context:  am on vacation, this week with friends.  What was today's actual practice? Today, a friend and I decided to go to TopGolf;  it was kind of like being at the range with someone else's clubs.  And that's ultimately how I was able to use it for practice:  I don't practice choosing a target, lining up to it, and then hitting often enough;  that's what this place seems to be about.  In any case, we were there for 90 minutes, I was hitting for maybe 35-40 minutes of that time, and I did pick a target each time.
    • Day 2 - (26 Aug 25) - Church men’s golf nine hole Captains choice.  Had grandson as part of our group - was a blast watching him drill the putts.  Love these no pressure sessions - great for going outside the norm on club selection.
