I've been playing golf for 3 years. I wouldn't call me a golfer because I have been playing very little. In 3 weeks I will be graduating from high school, so I plan on playing a lot more golf this summer.

I've only been playing with my dads golf set, but now I need my own set. I've checked around and I see that I can save about 50% if I buy from an american web shop.
I don't want to spend a lot of money. About $300 is what I would prefer, but I can use a little more if it is necessary.
I all ready have a driver (although I seldom use it), PW and a putter. So that is not necessary. It would probably be best to buy an iron set and a bag? Or is a full set better, even if I have some clubs?

Hope somebody can help me in the right direction. :)

If your buying online, make sure to do it from a legit website(golfsmith, tgw, rockbottomgolf) and stay away from websites that have top of the line clubs for about $300 a set(golf wholesale 18) as they are typically knockoffs...

A set of irons & some kind of multipurpose wood is really all you need to play a round of golf. Maybe a sandwedge, too. Most of us overcomplicate out golf rounds & golf bags.

Find a decent set of 4-SW irons, & a 3 to 5 wood & you're all set. http://order.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin...17159114447480 281 + shipping. Golf forums like this one or freegolfinfo.com are a great place to pick up used clubs from fellow golfers as well. Or sites like gigagolf or hireko are outstanding value as well.

Consider Boxed Sets. Ten or 11 clubs and a bag starts you just fine. See my guest column from Christmas time.
http://thesandtrap.com/bag_drop/club...der_boxed_sets

Also, the golf stores don't charge much more for boxed set than the online sites. Plus, the golf stores can give you a basic static fitting to make sure the clubs aren't wildly long or short shafted for your body build. Buy a little help if just starting out.

Thanks.

Think I will buy an iron set and a new bag. As I'm a fan of Nike, I have been looking at the Nike Slingshot 4D from Rockbottomgolf. I think they look nice (yes it matters to me :P ). Don't think I should over think it. I will probably not notice much difference between different irons in this price range.
I'm considering buying a new bag at my pro shop or a local golf store. Or just use an older bag my dad have got to start with.

I would also like to buy a #2 iron to use from the tee. The driver isn't exactly working for me. :P

Hybrids are a pretty good alternative for low irons and driving. Although I'm in a bit of a funk with mine at the moment....

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, just a newbie who can't start a thread of her own. I can't find what I'm looking for in other threads and just need some general advice and direction. I am not a golfer, I know, I know, so what am I doing on this forum, right? My boyfriend just graduated from Law School and I want to give him a nice set of clubs. He golfs occasionally now and wants to start playing regularly in the future, but he doesn't have any clubs of his own. Is it possible for me to get him a set without him there? Where should I look? Online, a store, Dick's Sporting Goods? What clubs are nice? I don't have a huge budget, but am looking to spend a decent amount, I appreciate any advice and response. I'm not trying to take this thread in a different direction, just want to know where to look and what kind of clubs are good, thank you!

Lady, are you just looking at irons or the whole bag (bag, irons, putter, woods)? Give a budget.

Hey mcotter, sorry I'm ignorant to anything golf related. I was thinking the whole bag and I'm not quite sure where pricing even starts for that so the budget is whatever it needs to be for something decent. I have been looking online at clubs, and trying to find some local golf shops other than Dick's, I guess I probably just need to start going into some shops, but I don't even know which clubs are decent, I apologize, I'm probably beyond help here

For budget are you thinking closer to $500 or closer to $1,000?

Hi again.

I have been to my local sports shop and looked at what they have got. I have decided to buy from them.

My options are:

- TaylorMade R7
- TaylorMade Burner Plus
- TaylorMade Burner
- TaylorMade Tour Burner
- TaylorMade Burner XD
- Nike Slingshot 4D
- Nike VR

I really need advice on which I should pick. I have a hcp of 36 and need irons that are easy to play.

EDIT: The Tour Burner is the cheapest irons I can get hold of. But I know nothing about them or if they are easy to play.

You would probably do just fine with the R7's. They are pretty forgiving and they feel pretty dang good. I wish the Tour Burners were cheaper here, instead its the R7's that are $50.00 cheaper than the Tours..

I just bought the Tour Burners 4-SW. Went to the driving rang and they felt really good. Only problem I had with them was that I couldn't hit the #5 and #4 iron as I did with my older set. The ball went from to the left (draw?). Didn't have much time and was in a hurry, so I hope a little more practice will fix the problem.

Magnus,
The irons will take a little getting used to because I am sure they are a little different than your previous irons. It may take a few buckets or a round of 18 to really get used to them, I know it took me about 2 buckets and a round of 9 holes to really get the feel of them. I really love the Tour Burners, they feel great and once I got my swing where I wanted it, the irons felt very smooth. Good luck!!

Tour Burners are very nice clubs, my buddy plays them. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of deal did you get??

Sorry, just realized your in Norway. As I'm in the US, price points probably won't translate well!

Posted
I paid 2499 NOK, which will be about 390 USD. This is at least (maybe more) 50% off the regular price over here. But as you said, it probably doesn't translate well. I'm not sure what they cost in the US. The price level in Norway is considerably higher than the US.

Have booked a lessen with the pro at my golf club tomorrow. Will probably hit my new irons better after that.
