Your arms are nowhere near as straight as they should be at that point, however.

Don't mean to sound cavalier, but you could... keep them straight. Tuck your butt and keep your arms straight.

Since it's just two pictures, and pixellated ones at that, tough to say. We worked with some women in the ladies clinic last night on keeping their arms straighter through impact.

1.) Get a proper camera. It reminds me of Atari golf.

2.) Still a touch wrist bendy / flippy

How would I do it? I'd focus a solid grip and on the angle of the right wrist during the address position. Maintain that angle during impact and the left wrist goes along for the ride.

Ah yes, another thread where nobody actually answers the OPs question. Instead we get "get another camera". Obviously, he knows he is flipping, I'm flipping, tons of people have problems with flipping and somebody should have some tips or drills on how to not flip. Especially someone with the instructor badge - or do we only get that info if we fork out money?

What I can suggest is to do the half swing drills where you swing half swings and focus on only keeping your wrists hinged to get the feeling. I think it is difficult to work on stuff like flipping on a full swing. But then again, I'm not an instructor so take it for what it's worth.

open your stance and hit high push cuts. once you've done that successfully 20 times, go back to your normal stance.

I hope you're not referring to either of my posts (see point 2 in post #8 and "what I would do" in post #10).

2. How do I stop a flip?

You could try to think of using "dead hands". Basically, don't use the muscles in the wrists on the downswing (other than slight tension to maintain the wrist position initially). This should lead to solid and more consistent contact. It might not have the distance you'd like initially, but then you can figure out how to gain club head speed without adding your wrists back in (usually by using more of your core muscles).

This one might be a bit more controversial, but I think another reason for the flip is that golfers want to end in a nice full finish (hands behind head, maybe even a little reverse "C"), so they continue to try to accelerate through AND well past impact. It's okay to finish 1/2 or 3/4, if that's all the momentum you've built up or you're just not that loose/flexible. In fact, if you go into a swing thinking that's where you're going to finish, you might be surprised at how well you strike the ball.

Thanks rexx.

I heard of the dead hands one, I'll try that out at the range this evening.

And I got a lesson for that on the second one (forgot about it). He was helping me stop my flip by getting me to hit punch shots.
If you finish the swing 1/2 you won't be flipping the wrists that much.

I'll post my results when I get back.

As someone who flipped for most of my golfing "career", it appears to me that you're doing the same thing I used to do. After impact, your left wrist is cupped. Because of this action, it causes your left elbow to bend away from the body--it has no where else to go, creating the dreaded chicken wing.

What you want to do is rotate the left hand after impact so that on your follow through, your left thumb is pointing to your left. Once you rotate your left hand, you'll notice that your left elbow is now turned down towards your left hip and can fold nicely against the side of your body. Also, by rotating your left hand, you'll notice that your arms can stay straight(er) after impact.

OP, for the sake of your sanity and your golf game, don't do that.

Hit some shots like that (you don't need the forward leaning part - just the straight arms, maintain the flying wedge).

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
