Bought two new wedges this spring and I am having the hardest time hitting my 56 degree. I am hitting it fat when trying to hit like a 70 - 90 yard shot out of the fairway. It has 14 degrees of bounce...would that high of a bounce number cause me to hit shots fat or am I just making bad swings?

Mich appreciated.

check the length, newer clubs are longer than previous clubs, if its a half inch longer, and you set up to it normally, you will lower your club head a half an inch..

14* bounce should do the opposite.

I would think that higher bounce from the fairway would more likely cause bladed shots, but I could be wrong.

I think the only difference is the bounce. My old one is a 10 I believe. I figured the same thing that more bounce would avoid hitting shits fat. Guess I am just making horrible swings at it. I gave up the game for 10 years and just started playing again. No I will also measure the length.

Gave up the game for 10 years and just started playing again and already at a 3 handicap? wow!!! as a 3 handicap, i would think you would be able to adapt to a longer wedge if that is the case with a bit of practice, so definitely get your swing checked.

A wedge is a wedge. If you hit it fat, it's because you've hit it fat. There's really no better answer. Doesn't matter if the thing is 6" longer, or has between 0-20° of bounce. Check the swing first, always.

Yes...when I decided to hang up the sticks I was trying to scratch out a living on the mini-tours after a successful college career. I could not go out and play the game for fun...so I needed to do something.

I really never lost the long game...my short game is brutal now though. Thanks guys for the input.

Just a thought, keep the radius of your left arm (right handed) constant through the swing of the wedge. Cheers!

Doesn't matter if your loosing dipping at it, or loosing your tush line were you catch it 4 inches behind the ball..

Are they fat and straight? If they're fat and straight, then I'll agree that a wedge is a wedge, it's the swing. If it's fat and right, divots deeper on the toe side of the club, maybe needs a little bending upright, opposite for short and left, divots deeper toward the heel, bent flat.
