One thing I've noticed about almost everyone on this site is how people carry a very mixed bag as far as brands and models.

Is this normal for pros as well? I bought my clubs as a set- and almost feel awkward that my Driver and 3 Wood match, especailly that they match my irons too.

Am I in the complete minority or is it the difference between a 5 handicap and a 21 handicap like me?

I think it all comes down to feel for most people. I have played with alot of people with lower handicaps, and some were very loyal to a specific brand of club. Others carried a mixed bag.

I think most people feel that some companies do certain things better than others, and they build their bags accordingly.

Smallfry is correct. Most golfers that have been playing for some time have a mixed set of clubs. I personally buy and play with the club that looks and feels the best to me, I am not loyal in the least to one club or ball manufacturer. Some people stick to one manufacturer but that is probably what feels best to them. As far as feeling akward about having all the same stuff, you shouldn't, Tiger plays all Nike stuff except for his putter and he's pretty good.

Tiger and I do have something in common, except the difference in name brand.

I have all Titleist equipment, with the exception of an Odyssey putter. I even have a Titleist golf bag. I have played well with the Titleist stuff, so there is no reason to change for now. I don't play enough to get real serious about things.

I was thinking the same too..I recently acquired some Titleist irons..so now I have a Tity driver, irons, putter..but my wedges are cleveland..and hybrids are wilson..but for some reason I feel I should make them all Tity..I have a red/black Callaway standbag that I wish was Tity now..lol

I've had a mixed bag for years but then I found myself buying Titleist everything. "I wonder if Titleist has a way of making people addicts?" I feel like everybody else though in saying it doesn't matter what you have just as long as it feels good to you. I have an Adams Redline 7 wood I would never give up. It’s one of those clubs you can just trust... Sometimes if my sand game is bad I'll through in my old Ping Eye2 SW.

My bag is mixed, but it's only because I got everything for free. Long story short, my uncle loves to buy golf equipment and then hand it down to me. The only thing I bought was my bag lol. My driver, 3 wood and irons are Ping. I have a cameron putter, cleveland cg 11 54, and a ping g5 LW.

Great spirits will always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I'm a mixed bag guy. I see nothing wrong with going with one brand in your bag, as long as those are the clubs you trust and can make shots with. That's what's really important.

I'm a mixed bag guy as well. The only constants are Titleist irons and Callaway fairway woods. Driver, wedges, and putter have been in flux for years.

The longer I play the less impressed with the need to change equipment frequently. I change things when I find something I really feel works better for me. Thats why my old cobra 7wd., Probably 7 or 8 years old, stays in the bag. I have never found one that did the things I want it to better. Same with the Cleveland wedge. Drivers and balls have been the exception over last 5-10 years, but I feel that real improvement has slowed in those areas also now. Now hybrids? Might be time for an upgrade.

There is absolutely no problem with having a mixed bag. That being said, I had Taylormade clubs and just recently replaced my Taylormade R580xd with a Titleist 905R. Now I have all Titleist clubs. They just feel better too me.

I played with mostly Callaway clubs for four years, changing drivers and putters often to soothe my spirits and occassionally help my game. I've been making more changes, lately, to accomodate my desire to try to manage my way around my home course better: that is, another hybrid to take the place of my 7 wood, new irons and wedges, and a higher lofted driver, which has proven to be a really good move for me. After changing putters quite a bit, I've had the same putter, now, for a little over two years and don't plan to change; likewise, I'd be reluctant to change my driver. I could care less if all the clubs come from the same manufacturer or not, as long as they meet the needs of my game. The most important criteria to me in club selection is suitability to my game and getting a good fit ( i.e. grip size, shaft length, lie, etc. ).

I too don't see any reason why playing a mixed bag or not really makes any difference... Golfers should use what they are comfortable with and they should make changes accordingly... a name is just that... a name... choose the clubs in your bag based on fow well you hit them and how much you like them don't worry so much about the name that is on them

I really don't have a mixed bag right now. I think I'm a little guilty when it comes to tour hype though, i.e. the 906F, Sonartec MD (thanks to Todd), R7 425 TP, or the 905r. I like what works the best for my game but I'm probably just a little to loyal/biased to Titleist products, but I do tend to fluctuate my fairway woods and hybrids. I have 4 "old faithful" fw's, a pair OG Steelheads 15* and 19*, PT15, and a 980F 17* I like to use these every now and again. I've also been trying out my Pop's 585 21* and his Hibore 3w. Oh, and as for golf balls, I'm always using different ones. I'm pretty variant when it comes to those, I often just pull out a random one be it a ProV1x, HX56, Z-UR, or B330S's

Mixed bag for me...Cleveland Launcher driver....Dunlop 3W(great club)......Adams CB 3 irons.... Adams and vokey wedges, a Cobra mallet face balanced putter and a 3 & 4 Wilson D- 100 hybrids. Mixed because I buy the sticks that work and fell best for me. I don't know of hardly anyone rocking the same brand on everythin unless they're sponsered or are just flat out homers.

And even sponsered pros might have a different branded putter, wedge or driver...it depends on the contract details.

Actually depending on how I'm feeling on any particular day depends on which driver and or putter I'll game (I own several of each and about 7 different irons sets) but I stick with the current irons and wedges...The CB3 set is flat out money and soo freakin pure. I have a cheaper set of TL cavity backs that are pretty sweet as well.

Mine is mixed also, one concern I do have though is the different shafts in all the clubs, all of the shafts are stiff but different manufacturers will have different specs. I really regret the driver I bought I can hit it well enough though the original shaft was way too light (50g changed to 60g) and I have so much lead tape on the darn head it looks as though the thing is taped together. One thing I'm fortunate for though is I'm right on the button for standard lie, the bottom of all my clubs show a wear path that is dead even from both ends.

    • Depends on how short you were coming up on these shots. A bit more wind? Also, maybe you were swinging at 2-3 mph slower the next day.  I think the biggest thing is not adjusting. Like making assuming your stock shot is not enough and taking 1 club up. Not sure what type of adjustments you were making in your decision making.
    • No one should measure a joint mobility away from that joint. If you go to physical therapy, they are not measuring your knee mobility based on your midline. It is based at the joint. Shoulder mobility should be measured in reference to the shoulder joint.
    • He's using a driver swing, while I used the iron swing. Bryson goes from about 65° B to 15° B, hence the 50°. If you bend your right elbow, you're going to pull your hands across your chest some. Conversely, if you abduct your right arm and hold onto a grip with your left arm, you can see how extending the right elbow as we do in the golf swing during the downswing will "pull" the right shoulder/humerus forward (adducting it, as going from 65° to 15° of abduction is). Even people who pull their right shoulder WAY too far around them eventually get it "back in front" when their right arm/elbow extends. So, such a motion shows up as shoulder adduction even though the movement that causes it is just widening the trail elbow. The left hand on the grip almost "pulls" the hands forward as the left arm can't stretch much (there's some shoulder protraction, but that's almost maxed out at P4). Oh, I downloaded it and watched it (and commented there) before he blocked me. It's what led to him posting the comment in the "update" above. 😄  Single shoulder range of 75°, and that's going out well into the follow-through. 50° Max range up to impact. Manavian's video is bad. He keeps saying "midline" which is just a horrible way to look at it. He also kept saying that the club was moving that amount — also wrong. Adding left and right together is really freaking dumb. Another golf instructor said "That's like saying the player has 100 degrees of knee bend (adding left knee bend to right knee bend) 🤦‍♂️" (similar to what the biomechanist said about squatting). Also, see my post above about elbow bend. That's why Plummer’s alignment stick demo is so intellectually dishonest. A golfer can't get anywhere near that position on the left with his left hand on the alignment stick (quoted below).
    • That makes no sense at all.  so, I watched that Instagram. Here is a summary...  Bryson.... Address: Trail Shoulder 0 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 65-deg abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 15-deg abduction. P9: 10 degrees adduction. Rory... Address: Trail Shoulder 16 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 26 degrees abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 0 degrees abduction.  P9: 18 degrees of adduction.  DJ... Address: Trail Shoulder 4 degrees adduction. P4: Trail Shoulder 42 degrees abduction. Impact: Right shoulder 2 degrees abduction.  P9: 15 degrees of adduction.  Their point is that arm doesn't stay on the trail side. That the arms have to get across the chest from P4 to P9. I mean they do. What matters is the rate of which it happens relative to the position of the swing. The trail shoulder at P9 is not abducted a lot. The range of that total abduction movement is like 40 to 70 degrees. Bryson might be an outlier. Rory might be an outlier as well.  A couple of points.  1. None of them had any adduction at impact. So, this tells me the trail arms stays on the trail side of the body at impact. Is it moving towards lead shoulder, yes. It doesn't happen till post impact. The right side of the body is moving towards the target, so the arms don't have to as much as people think.  2. Trail shoulder adduction from Impact to P9 is 18 to 25 degrees.  3. P9 adduction of the trail shoulder is only about 2 to 12 degrees more adducted than at address. The arms/hands stay in front of the chest a long-time post impact. If Rory, from his address position just rotated his body towards the target and raised up his arms so he is at P9. He basically didn't have to move his trail arm further across his chest than where he started at address. Visualize that for a bit. I bet for people who tend to stall and drag their arms across their body to hit the ball, that would emphasize how much the arms stay in front of the body and how much you have to turn.
    • Do you know how Manavian is measuring his shoulder adduction-abduction that purports to demonstrate 50 degrees or motion in Bryson's downswing? I know the broader biomechanics research/scientific literature on this suggests shoulder adduction-abduction is only a modest contributor of force generation in the downswing, so I'm definitely not convinced by anything he's arguing, I'm just curious how different people can be claiming to use ostensibly the same "data" to tell a much different story.
