So... WAY new to the game and not a lot of cash to get new(and good) clubs. I was able to find the bulk of what I think I need(used and on sale), but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Here's what I have:

Used Northwestern "Tom Weikopf Classic Pro" 3 - 9 irons(no wedges) and driver. *I have no idea how old they are, but they're in good condition*

A SiMac by Simon Golf 52 degree wedge

A M.A.C. by Simon Golf 4 hybrid(it says 22 degrees on it?)
http://tinyurl.com/35drkoo

And a Roll In R10 Putter

I have a feeling I might want to look at more wedges???? Obviously I'm not sure and could use your help. Thanks.

It is a good start. Just get the fundamentals with that. You won't need any more wedges to start that is my .02.

Cool. That's good to know!

I did have a couple of questions though...

What is the difference between the putter I have and a blade style putter? To be honest I bought the putter I have because it was on sale for $13.

Also what's the difference between hybrids and drivers/woods? And what does the 22 degrees printed on ym 4 hybrid mean?

You might want to pick up a 3-wood and a sand wedge.

I don't play a 3 wood. I go straight from Driver to 21* hybrid. But I'm not real long and a conservative player, so I don't need a lot of options from 200 yards out...

HAHAHA - oh wait, you were serious. 3 woods are easier to hit than driver and longer than 5-woods.

Balls man...you need balls.

Seriously..you might want to sandbag the 3 and 4 irons for now. The 4h should do fine in their place

i know the OP is a beginner and all...but I can't golf without my 3 wood. I rely on my 3 wood quite a bit.

I agree with sean, 3 wood and 56* wedge to get you started.

It's kinda weird. I just got a 4 iron Monday to fill out a gap in my yardage and haven't missed yet. It's my new favorite club. But I've only hit it off the Tee and at the range. I'm sure it will be a different story off the deck

Most 4-woods have the same length shaft as a 3-wood... so why is this a better option?

more loft = less sidespin so you'll get less of a fade/draw.

I don't think a 3 wood is a good idea, you don't need it really. maybe get a 5 wood if you really want some more distance, I'd say stick with the 5i for awhile. get a 56* sand wedge too.

There have been a few articles in Golf Digest and other magazines lately showing that the majority of guys actually gain a few yards using a 4wd due to the higher ball flight and it being a little easier to hit...

I never used my 3 or 5 wood much until I got used to them. Its hard to dial them in on the range but now that I can rely on them I use them A LOT. I dont have a ton of problems with my driver so I pull that for most par 4s and par 5s.
Most people will say that a mallet style putter (what you have now) will be much easier to use than a blade. I agree with them. I have 3 blades in my closet and an odyssey white hot 2 ball blade in my bag which is like ... I dunno. hard to explain. Not a real blade but not a real mallet either.. I love that one. Putters are personal preference. Its like going to a strip club. For months you can be looking at thin toned blondes then one day youll say holy isht. That thick brunette is amazing and youll enjoy her for a while only to return to the blonde or experiment with a ginger or whatever. EVERYONE who golfs a lot has a few putters I think.
I would say if youre dying to add stuff add a 56 degree sand wedge. CHEAP. You dont need a good one. and a 3 wood or a hybrid with less than 22 degeres loft. IF they make em. i know NOTHING about hybrisd. never hit one. Never even looked at one. Im scared to make that big of a change in my bag and game. Everyone I play with shoots lower than me and uses hybrids though so.. Eventually
What you NEED is a couple gloevs, and a discounted range pass. Buy in bulk if theyll let you. And MAYBE a lesson unless you have a friend who shoots LOW 70s and can clear up and huge glaring mistakes in your swing. and TIME. Lots of time and patience

I guess it would be pretty safe to say a 3-wood is a better option for a beginner than a driver. Wouldn't you agree?

no.........

I don't know why people hate the driver so much. It's not that hard to hit as long as you swing easy. Honestly, there's a gigantic clubface. If you hit it somewhere near the middle you'll be fine.

Than a Driver?

Absolutely, but a 4wd off the tee may even be a little better. I only have success with my Driver because it's high loft and I keep it under control with a yardage cap... Honestly though, I doubt I would lose anything at all if I dropped my driver for a 3 or 4wd

Just like any other club in the bag then.

Wait... "more loft = less sidespin so you'll get less of a fade/draw." Which implies that a 3-wood is a better option for Gaviao.
