Do You Ever Think About Going On Tour?

I think it's pretty common for most golfers, but I was wondering if anyone ever feels like they have what it takes to get on tour? I know I don't have the skill, but I mean the desire to do so. Do you guys think about it? And what would you do if you got on tour?

No, I dont. For 90% of tour pros, its no easy life. Its week to week living on an extreme level. I dont deny my wish to play in a US Open or Ametuer, though.

I would love to.

There is no way I have enough time or money to focus on it though...plus I'm 23 now, I'm too old.

I wish I could quit work and play 7 times a week and train all week too, but I ain't a millionaire.

But hey, I broke 80 after one year of playing, break 70 after another right? NOT!!!!

I wouldn't mind being a professional on tour if I started out early and didn't have a family. As it stands right now, I don't know that I could just because the above mentioned reason and I would be away from my family so much, and that is just not something I would choose to do.

I love thinking about getting on tour. I just started playing 3 years ago, and I'm already a 9 handicapper (plus I can hardly swing a club from november thru march). I have the desire, as right now my goal is to play on a college golf team that competes.

It'd be friggin' sick to be on tour. If anybody says they don't want to, they're nuts. Traveling all over, playing the best courses, making bank from your sponsors, and then if you piece a good weekend together you make like a quarter-mill. Living in a sick estate (not a house, rich people call it an estate ), driving benz's, beemers, etc. Honestly, I can't think of a better life to live.

No. If I had the skill and a strong desire to spend long periods of time away from my family, then sure.

I went to Q-School twice back 13 or so years ago. I was a very good player in college. Used to beat some of the guys you see on tour now on a regular basis. I ran out of money to keep perusing my dream. Do i wish I was out there...you bet. But it is not all about private jets and steak and lobster every night for the average guy out there.

Yea, I think about it. I also thinking about winning the powerball and nailing Natalie Gulbus. And the sad part is I would have a better chance with the lottery and Gulbus than I would making it on Tour. So I guess it's back to my job and the wife and the 11 handicap for me.

Not only the thing about family, but keep in mind that the amount of work required to give yourself a chance to win on tour and to maintain that quality day after day is mind boggling.

I definitely wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth if I suddently were given the talent and ability to get on the tour but I'd be silly not to think of golf as work at that point. That said, it most definitely beats finance as a way to earn a living.

Im 22, single, and have a very good job. If I won the lottery or came into a sum of money large enough to quit my job I would. I would work out every day, and golf every afternoon. If I needed a coach I would hire one. I think in 5 years time I could practice/play enough to make it through Q school. Maybe even convince the tour to give me a sponsors exemption to play Sawgrass.....and maybe win! :)

This is all pending on that large sum of money, and my current martial status. IF I was married and had children, then playing in a tour event, or just playing twice a week at a nice course would be enough for me to maintain a normal home life.

I dream about going pro entirely way too much. Now seeing what the working world is like, I wish I had pursued playing golf in college much more so I could have kept at my game. I only play on the weekends now and occassionally can get out for work (insurance is a nice way to incorporate golf and work), and started playing in amateur events for the first time this past year. Like others have said, if I could only find enough money to quit work to play golf full time, I would do it in a heartbeat. I could stay at the course from sun up to sun down if I could and I would not mind sleeping in cars or eating pb&j; sandwiches for breakfast lunch and dinner if thats what it took. Anyone have few thousand dollars they want to spare to sponsor me?

When I was in college I thought about it all the time but I just couldn't get the scores low enough. There was a guy on the team with me that gave it a try and he basically struggled from week to week on mini tours. When you're young it's fun to dream and if you got the game maybe worth a try but once you get older you realize what it really takes.

I think about it all the time. I'm going to try for it. My first goal is to play college golf, which shouldn't be a problem.

If my handicap keeps going down like it has in the last 8 months, then I should be around a +1, maybe better, by the time next year rolls around. I'm gonna try and find a way to qualify for the U.S. Open as an amateur.

I've thought a lot about playing golf in college lately (I'll be a senior in h.s. next year), but not so much going pro. I would love to! But I think I'll just stick with law instead.
