I am very happy for Bubba to get his first win........I am a big Bubba fan and have been since his nationwide tour days....I recall a time when he was in a playoff (with K Stadler, I believe) on a par 5....Bubba had hit his second shot into the rough next to the green (tough play, no certainty of getting it up and down)....anyway, Stadler failed to find his ball that didn't quite carry the water hazzard and I think there may have been a questions as to whether it was in the hazzard or out and just lost....anyway, Stadler goes back to where he hit his original 2nd shot and plays another ball -- and he just hits this unbelievalbe shot that ends up about 18 inches from the cup.....the crowd around the green is going crazy and then they pan the camera over to Bubba and he is standing right next to the gallery with a huge smile on his face (almost laughing) as he is clapping for Stadler right along with the gallery......I just thought to myself, "here is a guy who has it figured out".....BTW, Bubba got up and down for the win....

The win has major repercussions for Bubba. He's in next year's Masters, and he's now right in the thick of things for a Ryder Cup spot (13th in the US standings). Perhaps most importantly in the short term, the win puts him in the top two in earnings among those not yet exempt for the British Open since the May 24 cutoff date for the top 50 in the world rankings, who get an invite after the AT&T; National. Bubba has earned $1,110,375 since the Memorial plus the Players; the winner this week in Philly (where Bubba isn't in the field) will collect $1,116,000. Barring a surprise winner or a top-3 finish by one of the Rickies (Barnes and Fowler, who have earned $625,945 and $747,750 during the qualification period, respectively), Bubba will be in the field at St. Andrews. I wish they'd air his practice rounds at the Old Course on pay-per-view.

I'm sure most people have heard the story or read the article about it, but if I recall correctly Bubba himself has said he has A.D.D., although he has never been diagnosed since he doesn't go to the doctor. Long story short he has trouble in tourneys because he gets so impatient and bored. In this article it said he played a practice round once with Tiger and played every shot of the entire day with a 4-wood just because it kept his attention, and I think he shot like 78? He has some really great shot-making skills.

EDIT: He played with his wife and shot 77 with a 4-wood, putts included from 7,000+ yards.

No he didn't. Bubba Watson never won a Nationwide Tour event.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Correct, He did however win the CVS caremark charity classic in 2008 with team mate Camilo Villegas, it is a professional golf tournament, but is unaffiliated with professional golf tours now, it was formerly a tournament on the PGA Tour from 1969 through 1998

Maybe it was coming down the stretch of a tourney in which they were both in contention.....forgive me, I am getting old...

Editing to Add .....You are right Shorty, Stadler won the playoff...it was the 2004 Lake Erie Peak n Peak Classic...the second playoff hole was a Par 5 and I am thinking that was the hole I was recalling....Bubba did not get up and down, and they both made par. At least some of my memory is still there........

Way to go, Bubba!

I choked up when I saw his interviews.

This is the first tournament in a long time that I didn't get to watch the final round, and I'm so bummed. It must've been great to witness in realtime.

  • 2 weeks later...
I did in fact go on the Friday, and actually learned a valuable lesson... I am never, ever going to throw a club again.

Actually, I've only tossed once. A week before the tounament, we put together a foresome and I blew a simple putt and gave my putter a small toss. My regular partner said he'd never seen me do that and he was correct. I never had.

Skip ahead to the Travelers, 13th hole, par 5. Craig Bowden wifs his second shot way short of the hole but on the green. And then sails his 3rd straight across the green and down the hill. That's when he threw the club, enough for him to have to pull out his divot tool and make a repair. Chips for 4, then sinks it for par. He pulls his ball out of the cup and throws it into the nearby water hazzard. I now know how really stupid that really is and looks. I've seen it profesionally done.

Lesson learned.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

    • Day 133: did a stack session.
    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
