Thanks for the help in the other thread. I believe I am going to go with AAA balls the first time around. These are my options...

Bridgestone e5, e6, B330-RX
Callaway Tour i, ix
Maxfli Noodle
Nike One Black, Vapor, Karma
Taylormade Burner LDP, TP Red, Black
Titleist Pro V1, V1x, NXT, NXT Tour

You can see my swing here:

My driver speed is between 100-105 (260 yds) and iron between 83-85 (6i - 170 yds). Since changing my swing, my ball flight has come down a little (I would call it average, as it was too high before) and I feel that with a proper ball I would be able to make the ball check up. I do not need anything extreme but I would like something that will check on approach shots and have good feel around the green. I do not care about distance or durability of the ball. I would prefer a cheaper ball, but it isn't a big deal since I won't be shredding them and i do not lose many. Thanks.

I play AAA Nike One Black, and they are good, nice feel and good distance. Plus it is one of the cheaper ones. Buy the 100 bucket if you do so.

Have you played anything else? How does it compare to the "almighty" Pro V1 lol?

I have played V1x, and it is really good, but not worth the price in my opinion, but it is my fav ball.

Good to know, thanks.

The Titleist NXT Tour is a great budget go-to ball.

You've got a pretty wide array of balls that you are considering. Think about what is most important to you (distance, spin, feel, durability, accuracy, etc).

NXTS, One blacks, or E6s, all kind of perform more or less the same
i love them
I'm out of one blacks so ill prob switch to e6s cause of price.... but i just played 36 holes with the same NXT, love dit so that might have decided for me
ummm
meh provs for mids to high are so meh.
I had like 200 of them and i dunno, sometimes i land it short and it checks and i'm screwed so i like that extra bounce/roll sometimes, And that extra spin isnt helping on hard hilly greens anyways so whatever, i think they're overrated for mid to high cappers.

if your gonna go with that grade, you should be able to get the best and just get the prov1, id prefer to get he v1x though.

This guys brings up and interesting point in playing a tour-level ball with a high handicap. High-spin balls are great if you are consistent and confident enough to play at the stick. But the average golfer doesn't hit that ball as consistently, and more often than not will miss short (when thinking optimistically about approach distances). Missing the pin 30 feet short only to have the ball sit or scramble backwards doesn't really help a golfer struggling for bogeys and pars.

Yeah, to be honest for mid to high cappers a ball that checks up nice does more harm than good in the long run
Having the ball check where it lands is great when you have a solid wedge game but most mid-high caps dont at all so when it checks 30-100 feet away, that doesnt help
Most courses have some sort of roll that will help you, depending on the side you're on
Of course it can work against you but more often than not your ball is gonna roll forward to the hole in some way

Not to go against several of you, but I tend to be long rather than short which is why I like the idea of a ball that will check more.

well
NXTs one blacks and such check up fine, but balls i hit on the high side i much rather them roll down and end up on the low side than spin back and stay on the high side

I got a dozen Nike One Vapors from that site and absolutely love them. They check up great, have a nice feel off of all my clubs and are pretty durable. Plus they are definitely on the cheaper side compared to the other balls on your list. I'd try them out if I were you.

TWS-

Here is my .02...you and I have about the same swing specs. I played the Bridgestone e5+ for a couple years (really like it and its considered the Poor Man's Pro V). Last summer I changed to the ProV1x and liked it. I played with the ProV the last couple of weeks and I crushed it...I have never hit my tee shots farther. I also like the feel of the ProV off my irons and hybrid.

I went to the practice range today to pitch and putt to see what ball performed better for me (using the ProV, the 1x, and the e5+ that I had in my bag). All were very comparable on just off the green chips with my 60 degree wedge. I have never spun a ball off the green from the fairway, but all three balls for me will hop and stop...so the spin thing doesn't really apply to me. I actually chipped the best with the e5+ and putted better with the ProV.

My suggestion would be to get the ProV 07-08 model (14.95) and the e5+ (11.95) and see which one you like. I have ordered from lostgolfballs.com for the past 4 seasons...I highly recommend the AAAA....better than the AAA but not as expensive as the AAAAA (mint). I actually kept out some of the 4A from a previous order and when I ordered the Mint and compared, no one could tell the difference.

I assume we are talking about 100 ball buckets at LGB.com. AAA are my norm. I hold it to under a dollar a ball and preferably $0.50 a ball. Older Pro V1s, Nike one Blacks, TM LDP Reds, Bridgestone 330. NXT Tours, and Callaway tour 56s are on my menu. My favs are the TM LDPs. Switch from Pro V1x and have not looked back.

As for quality of an AAA ball I have gone sub par with em. I see very little functional difference from a ball from a new sleeve. Have not tried the new TM Penta. Some one has to lose on of those critters in front of me. LOL

Carrsbie-

Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. Based on what you said and some other, I think I will give the V1x, e5, and Vapors a test run and go from there.

I just won 9 pentas at mens night
took them to the pitch and putt today (grass tees)

They're pretty nice golf balls.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
