This afternoon I played with one of the guys overhere and somehow I had trouble finding the fairways with my Driver teeshots. I was using my 909D2 and allthough our distances of the tee were about equal his shots were all on the fairway at the 10th hole we swapped drivers ..... just a joke we sometimes do .....

I really don't know what happened, but I instantly found the fairways again and I even hit my longest drives ever, well over 330 yds at a few holes ..... WOWWWW !

The one I used was had a stock Voodoo shaft S flex, FT IZ Tour 9.5* and it was very easy to hit aswell...... very forgiving and longgggg.

I am not a longhitter normally, and my driver swingspeed isn't huge (about 95-100 Mph).

Anyone using this driver ?

Interesting, were they downhill or with a tailwind or something?
cause the ball would physically have to come off the club faster than you were swinging it by quite abit to get that distance.

Ping I3 + blade 3-pw
9.5 09 Burner with prolaunch red
Nickent 4dx driver

I have a swing speed at about 110 and the longest ive ever hit the ball on a normal striaght out hole is 345, with a tailwind and the ball landed on a sprinkler head as it took a huge forward bounce when it landed.

A question for other sandtrap members how many others here seem to hit a different driver better when you are struggling with your own?

I haven't been measured for quite a while, but with the 909 D2 (10.5*/stock Diamana Stiff) I normally reach about 280 yds on my better shots (including roll), so maybe my swingspeed has gone up a bit...... as I have been at the range many hours this year.

The FT IZ Tour was 9.5*/stock Voodoo Stiff..... trajectory a bit lower (not much) and the carry wasn't much longer, but from there they were like they kept on going forward. Trajectory was also different ( it might have more to do with the shafts then with the heads), but with the 909 D2 Diamana my balls start low and climb and come down a bit steep (less roll), with the FT IZ the ball starts steeper, doesn't climb much and descents with a lower angle and than bumbs forwards more. The 330+ shots were with a tailwind (not strong) but longer than I am used to.

If you look in my basement you would see I believe I hit a lot of drivers better than the one I'm using at the time.

I love my FT-iz. It definitely seems to keep the ball straighter.

Congratulations your one of the longest hitters on tour!

Great contribution.

I don't think the intention of this thread was to brag.

haha Sorry, in one of those moods. Ok somthing usfull I wish contribute....

I have a FT Iz 5 wood, and it does fly long if you can get past it sitting closed. As for the other question, I hit my driver better then I hit anybody else's. Don't think I could find anything better.

I was recently in Asia where I borrowed a FTIZ driver, I found it very nice, extremely straight with a great trajectory, i liked it, but to be honest, the guy also had an r9 which I definitely hit longer, I was hitting both off most tees, just for fun. Certainly did nto consider it a long club. I like my driver best (I have a few) but I must admit, sometimes its nice to change when I am not on my game, gives me something else to focus on :)

I went to Golf Galaxy to see the FT -iz yesterday. I almost threw up in my mouth. I don't understand how so many guys hit golf clubs that look like the batmobile at address.

Throwing up ..... yes I did about the same when I first looked at the head myself, try it and you'll toss your R7 in the dust corner of your garage.

After hitting my friends FT-IZ Tour last time, I went to the shop and this evening I had one of my weekly competitions, I won the longest drive, not by 10 yds as I am used to, but I was 40 yds longer than the second and had only a solid 5 iron into the green of the 540 yds par 5 the Longest Drive was on.

If you hit it "between the screws" it is really going somewhere.

I don't know about that... I've hit quite a few clubs lately and it's still in the bag for a reason. I could likely pick up 10 - 20 yards playing something newer, but a traditional looking driver head is pretty important to me. I'll take 300 down the middle and save the $$ for now.

im not a big fan of the plastic material with a titanium face plate. Theres something about my driver head being 90% plastic that I dont like, lol.

Hmm .... if steel was stronger than modern plastics like Carbonfibre, ABS, Polycarbonate, etc. your car's bumpers would still be made of steel, but they are not !

well thats not really true, steel isnt used because its alot heavier. Those cars in the old days that had steel bumpers were tanks and could take some hits. Modern Drivers are made out of titanium not steel though. Titanium is alot lighter and harder than steel and alot harder than that plastic crap they use on the driver head

    • Context:  I am on vacation, so I don't have access to my indoor practice room, and I won't for about a month. Day 12 (August 22).  Today's weather was not one where even I was going to be outside.  For whatever reason, I didn't do the putting drill today.  There was a drill I remembered from this site (the article was something akin to "five things you can do to improve that don't require talent") that involved having an iron along the back from stance, moving to backswing and holding, then moving to forward swing and holding.  So I did that for five minutes today. I also spent 90 minutes at the gym;  my main motivation for getting stronger is golf related (and I really should get back to Fit For Golf  specific workouts;  I'm not sure when I lost that habit, a poor choice on my part that I did).  Funny story, I spent 20 minutes on the Stairmaster today at the gym (the rest was weights and rests), a device I started with shortly after I took up golf because I read something about it in a Butch Harmon book.  I should be following FFG Mike's fitness advice though, not some memory of someone else.
    • Day 8 8-22 Worked on backswing length and getting some speed in backswing. Recorded swings. Was happy with practice session tonight.
    • Day 325 - 2025-08-22 Practiced for almost an hour after cleaning my cabinets to account for the new GEARS cameras and helping @OBlum for a bit. Exaggerating the same old things.
    • Yea, faster greens = shorter putting stroke. You can be more accurate.  Really, I think people who struggle with distance control struggle just as much on slow greens as fast greens. I've seen people blast putts 10-FT past the hole on 8 or 9 STIMP as much as 11-12 STIMP.  I prefer faster greens. Usually means the putting surface is better and again, shorter putting stroke.
