Do you polish it? I find pennies hard to see if they're tarnished.

You guys are going to be disgusted by the sheer quantity.... it's a collection/obsession/whatever you want to call it. My dad and I get them for each other when we play new courses, as souveniers. I typically only use the top hat clip and keep the divot reparier in my pocket.

That's pretty cool... obsessive... but cool

If by "disgusted" you mean "very impressed," then yes.

Something thinner, more reflective, and less "red faded to pink" would be preferred.

I've considered them (the RTJ courses sell them and I get one at each one of those specific courses I visit), but they seem a little large for me when you think about WHY you mark your ball. Typically I only mark when I'm in the vicinity of my playing partner's line... but I guess you might typically move to the left or right of the line anyways, so it probably doesn't matter. Now that I think about it, I have an Odyssey poker chip marker I think I'll try tomorrow..... maybe I'll like it.

FYI- if you decide to go a different route than the poker chip, maybe try a metal marker that is NOT shaped round... like the callaway hexagon or perhaps something similar to your "shield picture?" I personally think that would be really cool (but then again, I am the wierdo that has like 30 ball markers)!

I think for casual rounds they probably ok, but I find them a little big and garrish. You would certainly get looks and possibly negative comments if you tried using them in a high level or competitive tournament such as a State Amateur or somthing like that.

I actually use a brand new type of grip made by JBD Golf ( http://www.jbdgolf.com ). These grips are amazing. They feel great and the ball marker is built into the end cap of the grip. I never have to look for my ball marker. When I bought the grip I was skeptical as I felt that it might fall off, but I have played a ton of golf without ever losing my marker. I would suggest trying one out if you have not already done so. They are kind of like a Winn grip in terms of feel.
