During the late 1970s, it was a Sounder stiff-shafter 4W. Sounder was a small company down in Florida, and they made a name for themselves with small-headed fairway woods. Unique design feature: A metal pin which fastened the shaft to the head before the nylon whipping thread went around the hosel.

Hit lots of beautiful shots with it, especially coming out of light rough and holding the green, and on longer par 3 holes. It had a very small head, probably about the size of a deeper hybrid today.

I traded in that club and the 3W, plus a custom driver I liked, for MacGregor MT woods (I was already playing MT irons). MacGregor driver was good, was the MT fairway woods never quite produced the shots the Sounders did.

Modern era: The 8i has been the wonder club in the last two sets of irons I have played. Use it for chip and run, and for my magic shot - a draw hit back against a left-to-right crosswind. When I hit this shot, I actually look like I might know what I'm doing.

favorite club in my bag... just call me Tin Cup McAvoy because it's my 7 iron. lol. "I never miss with the 7 iron, yes sir, the only truly safe club in my bag" I use it all the time. If I'm 150 out my ball should just call the middle of the green and let it know it'll be landing there shortly.

Do you hunt zebras?

in my spare time lol. but i don't think its as wide. The shaft is an inch longer, and the bottom of the head is shaped like a hull oh a shit so it glides right through the rough.
