and then it hit me...... I LEFT IT IN THE FRIGGEN CART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also lost my putter cover (not a big deal, I have 6 of them in my basement)

That really sucks man. Yeah, you can really forget about that thing being turned in.

Which is really pathetic. If I found it in the cart I definitely would've returned it to the pro shop. That's really low.

Great news to kick off the weekend.

A friend left his beloved 60° wedge on one of the greens at a course a few weeks ago. Actually, first I left a wedge (or maybe two) at an earlier par 3 tee box and the group behind brought them up. Then he left his, but they didn't see it. He raced back to the last place he remembered using it and couldn't find it. We finished the round (he really fumed the rest of the way), then he went looking a few more times and asking different groups. He left his name and number with the pro shop, and we headed home.

Ten minutes later as we were on the way home, we got a call and someone had turned it in, so we spun back and picked it up. Refreshing that there are people around who do the right thing.

Golfers are typically honest. When I used to work at a golf course part time, I've found and turned in clubs, head covers, sunglasses, wallets and few other personal items. Never even thought for a second about not turning them in.

Glad to hear you got your rangefinder. I'm using a Leupold GX-1 Digital and find it very useful.

I have "left" mine in fairways and teeboxes but have always noticed in time. After those two incidents I am more aware of where it is. I also thought that those would grow legs given the opportunity.

You're unfortunate. My buddy dropped his somewhere on the course. We looked for it but didn't find it. Two days later he got a call from the course and someone turned it in. But left and expensive wind jacket (not as expensive as your range finder) in a cart and never did get it back. So it is just the luck of the draw it seems.

My daughter was practicing for a tournament recently, and left her 9 iron by a practice green. She was one of the last people off the practice area that day. We noticed it the next afternoon and checked with the course, but no club. It still hasn't been turned in. I guess someone needed more than she did.

You were lucky, but it's still ugly as hell to defame people who aren't members or who don't play upscale courses they way you're doing. I'm not a member anywhere, I play a cheap muni course, and I've turned in every item I've ever found on the course if I didn't find its owner on the way up. I've had every item I've ever left on the course returned to me playing these courses as well (except for the $2 putter headcover I didn't bother asking about). So no, had it been anyone else, I'd wager you had about equal odds that they do the right thing.

let me clarify something.....I am a member at this course - and it IS a city course

i grew up playing on muni's and will continue to support the local city course's

I'm not a member anywhere, just walk the local 9 hole muni due to lack of funds and yesterday I decided to go out to a close-by 18 hole course. It was a slow going all round (5 deep playing "slowly"), so no real reason to let anyone play through since it was a constant slow.

Anyways, after a long day (about 4.5 hours for 16 holes) in the rough of the 17th green I found a new Callaway pitching wedge. Since the group ahead of me was slow going, and they were waiting for the group in front of them I immediately drove up behind them while they were waiting and asked them if it was theirs. It wasn't, so then I went to the group ahead of them (long par 5) and it ended up being one of theirs.

It's just the right thing to do, and I believe most people would've done the same. Yes, you'll have some bad eggs; but most of time I see people bring stuff in; or clubs that lost an owner sitting in the clubhouse waiting for somebody to return for them.
