Heavier shaft means more clubhead speed?

It is hard to say, maybe a heavier shaft might mean more clubhead speed, it is most a matter of balance. A lighter head will result in a higher swingspeed, so if a heavier makes a the head relatively lighter, maybe the swingspeed will increase, if this will lead to more distance is a big question .....

Well yes, F=ma, but if increasing m causes a to decrease, it's a wash. A heavier shaft requires more strength to swing. If you don't have that strength, you won't swing the club as fast as before and F will stay the same and might even go down, all things being equal.

I don't get hireko's article. If you have a grooved swing, a heavier shaft won't help. If you swing like you're chopping thick weeds, a heavier shaft won't make the clouds part and give you a smooth swing all of a sudden.

Just my uninformed opinion.

If you have a sound swing with smooth transition and acceleration, a lighter shaft means more clubhead speed.

I think the author is trying to say that many golfers mess up their swing with a lighter shaft and slow down in their attempt to gain some control. With a heavier shaft, these golfers can be more aggressive.

Heavier club makes for more BALL speed, but not clubhead speed.
