Let's discuss a few things about the putting stroke. Putting itself seems to be such a personal thing with so many variations on how to execute it and cubs to execute it with.

1) Where you do play the ball in your stance when putting?
2) Do you lean the shaft forward and if so, how much?
3) What style of stroke do you use? ( straight back/through aka pendulum, "door hinge' etc
4) What type of grip do you use?
5) How do you aim and align yourself?

I tend to play the ball about 2 balls ahead of center.
I do lean the shaft forward, but not too much.
I find success with a short stroke that hits the ball rather than just swings through it. I'm not sure why as I know this goes against much of the conventional wisdom from the putting gurus out there. I take it back short, move it forward with as much hit as I feel I need and the follow through is very short.
I use a classic putting grip.
I use my shaft as a guide from behind the ball. I then line up that line using the markings on my ball and away I go.

Big Bertha 3-10 IADAMS Tom Watson Classic 54,58 and 64 Wedges Nike Oz 5 Putter/Wilson Staff ( not sure model, bought it in second hand store ) Ball: Bridgestone E6

From time to time putting is my strongest aspect of my game; and only when I really think about doing it the right way every time (I get lazy a lot which really hurts my scores)

1) I keep the ball dead center, primarily so I can look straight down and still feel really solid and balanced.
2) My lean *only* comes from putting about 60% of my weight on my left (lead) foot. When I first address the ball, the shaft is straight up and down; with the lean it's forward about 1"
3) Pendulum, easiest for me to see where/if I screwed up and why.
4) I guess conventional. No claw or anything.
5) After I pick the point that I want to aim for; I use the front tip of the ball and the line on the top of my putter to get the proper reference line; then conform my body to where my putter is aiming. This might be easier for me since I played a lot of Billiards in my day, thinking of one specific part of the ball; and the line on my putter to be the cuestick on a straight shot.

Let's discuss a few things about the putting stroke. Putting itself seems to be such a personal thing with so many variations on how to execute it and cubs to execute it with.

1/ Ball just ahead of centre

2/ Vertical 3/ In Square In 4/ Overlapping 5/ Approach the ball from behind and set the club down. Use a mark on the green near to the ball as an immediate target.

1: I play the ball ahead of center as well
2: So the putter is flat on the ground, you can get your putter fitted to how you stand comfortable and swing the putter. I use a longer putter because i am bit taller. I don't like to have to lean over to hold the putter.
3: what ever gets the clubface square at impact consistently, not write or wrong way.
4: Overlaping, same grip i use for every club
5: I like to set up my feat first, because if i don't i tend to aim a bit towards the right. I also might just like an more open stance, i will have to check this out. But, definetly from the side parallel to the line i choose.

From time to time putting is my strongest aspect of my game; and only when I really think about doing it the right way every time (I get lazy a lot which really hurts my scores)

My lean comes from the same thing, the movement of the weight forward. On very short putts when I am looking to move the ball in a straight line with more speed than is neccesary to take the break out, I exaggerate my forward shaft lean. I don't know that it helps at all, it's just how I've always done it

I have a conventional putting style so nothing unusual.
1) 1 ball forward of center.
2) Slight shaft lean.
3) Mainly shoulders, slight wrist action.
4) Reverse overlap with right pointer finger down shaft.
5) I get over the ball then align myself.

Wedges- Adams Golf Tom Watson Classic Grind 52.08, 56.12, 60.08 w/ Adams Golf TW Wdg FlexPutter-...

I have a narrow, open stance and I fan the blade a little open in my backswing. I have a simple, conventional right hand low grip with my left thumb down the front of the shaft. My right hand is perpendicular to my left and I hold the shaft in my right palm a little like a hammer. I play the ball off of my left heel and have a slight forward press. My wrists only get involved on long lag putts.

I've tried the square stance, pendulum stroke, but it just felt unnatural and my distance control went in the crapper.

for some reason right now with my putting stroke I cant and dont feel comfortable with the ball any farther back than the edge of my leading foot, so the ball is pretty far forward. Is this a bad thing? I always make sure I follow straight throw with my stroke so the ball goes straight and my strike is pure. I think I only feel comfortable with it so far forward because I learned to putt with a wilson 8802 putter and played the ball off my leading foot.

actually here is a picture of exactly how I like the ball in my stance. I think I learned it from phil when using my 8802. I just dont see too many people play it as far forward like me and phil, lol.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
