Hello!! I think Vokey wedges are the best I carry

I carry the same combo and love them

Ive got 52* 56* and 62* Vokeys. I had crap before and getting such a good quality wedge is a HUGE difference. Knowing the ball is going to stop if you want it to (even at a 20 index) is awesome. I thought they were forged they feel so soft. I'm thinking about getting the 52 bent down to 51 or 50.5 to cover more of the gap and probably get the 62 bent down to 60 too but then I lose a ton of bounce that I kinda need...

Look at it this way: the best irons in the world are forged. Everyone loves the feel of these forged irons. Shortgame is all about feel, so why then would you not want forged wedges???

Nonsense.

I use Mizuno forged irons and I love them. It is not because they are forged. Do all the world's best players use forged irons? No. Forged irons do not feel different from cast ones. Different designs feel diffeent. As for the comment "Vokeys are OK, but they are cast..." You'll have to tell the majority of pros using Vokey wedges that they are doing the wrong thing. Think of the FEEL they're missing out on. What a joke.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

OMFG!!

Yeah, I'm gonna hit my Vokey, Ram, and MP wedges side by side next time out - with earplugs in - and see if the Titleist doesn't start to "feel" a little softer.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I had Vokeys, never fell in love with them. Just didn't feel right for me, especially on full shots.
Playing Cally X forged vintage now, love them. I also like mizuno. Had a set of RAW black ox that I wore out. couldn't find a mizzy replacement with enough bounce for the wet turf up here.

A good wedge is a sharp wedge. A wedge is useless once their grooves are gone.

I like Vokeys and Clevelands, ,my deciding factor when buying a new one is which one can I get the better deal.

FWIW, I like the Mizuno wedges I have in the bag right now because I like the finish, the shape, and the bounce and grind on them. And the grooves fit nicely between the too-aggressive spin-milled grooves and the conforming grooves (though by now they're dulled down enough they'd probably act as well as conforming grooves).

I play Vokeys (52* and 56*) and have a 48* that I'm not carring right now. I have CG14s Clevelands too and they are great wedges. My magnetic bracelet is tuned to the Vokeys so that's why I play the Vokeys.

I've got four different wedges (5 if you count my PW which I don't...): a Wilson Harmonized 52, an Adams Tom Watson 56, a Titleist DCI 60, and a new (to me) Callaway X-Forged Vintage 60. They're all very different, but I can't say for sure which I like the best yet. I haven't had a chance to use the X-Forged yet, but I'm hoping it will be fun to play with.

The old 60 degree (and I mean old, I think it's circa 1995, but it was $5 or $10 used, so I just threw it in with a few other clubs I was buying) was the only one that really didn't work for me. It was useful for hitting out of heavy rough (or one time out of a bush) because it has about the biggest heaviest club head I've ever seen, but it has like 18 degrees of bounce and I just couldn't make good contact.

Otherwise, these wedges (which vary from $30 to $110 new) all seem pretty acceptable to me. I don't get a huge amount of spin on any of them, but that's probably me more than the hardware. For full shots and for chips, they all work perfectly well.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

I've played raw and oil can vokeys for quite a while. loved em. The new spin milled offering are not so great for me. They feel like they have moved mass lower on the club face. Just can not get the right feel. So I have moved on to Reid Lockhart and Eidolon wedges. Love their balanced feel and grinds.

Nothing wrong with Vokeys, I have owned quite a few and still carry a limited edition 60M made by Bob. I have also owned a lot of Clevelands, still have 52° and 58° gunmetal DSG wedges as my backups. Currently I am using the MP T-10s by Mizuno, also fine wedges. There really is no "best", it comes down to what works for you and what you prefer.

...confidence is what got you to a 12...not wedges. i own a cleveland and a vokey. love em both the same.

This.

I am amazed at how many people try to just play by feel from 100 yards and in without ever practicing it. 1/2 and 3/4 wedge shots are the easiest shots to hit and if the average golfer would take 10 minutes at the range to know how far they hit their wedges with standard 1/2 and 3/4 shots they would easily take 3-4 strokes on their game without changing a thing. My league is full of guy who take a full backswing from 50 yards and then try to just swing "less hard" - which leads to skulled and fat shots all round long.

they've always had a rather large portion of the market share. Between Vokeys and Cleveland, they have a choke hold on the wedge market.

I love watching guys take a wedge shot at 50 yards and they'll take the same full swing but suddenly slow it down right before impact....then ridiculously flip their wrist.

I laugh at people who have no idea to adjust shot trajectory or spin yet fire directly at the flagstick because they're hitting a tour ball with a Vokey. I want to say, ""you know they're not magic, right?".

    • Day 171 - 2025-03-20 Got a good 30 minutes in today. A little backswing so it doesn't get too far out of hand, then some downswing stuff. If I'm in a good spot at the top I have a chance even without the best downswing.
    • First day of spring and we had colossal snowflakes here.   The temperature has dropped significantly.   I may not get to golf until mid-April.

    • So to start with I’m 67 years old and just returned to the game a month or so ago after a 30+ year break. . To give you an idea of how long I’ve been away from golf, there were no hybrids last time I got serious about it. I’m enjoying it and seeing gains/improvement every time out. That said, I’m playing with antique woods (Old Taylormade Burners) and since I’m playing with Callaway irons (2004 BBs) I’d like to stick with the brand and upgrade to Callaway woods - at least a driver and a 3 for now.   For a glimpse of my ability, I hit the 3 wood 200 yards and more or less straight, and I think I newer tech clubs might help. Also I’m 6’5” and these clubs are a bit short for me, by 1 1/2” or so.   So looking at the gillions of perfectly fine looking Callaway drivers on eBay I’m completely overwhelmed and under-informed. I’m also doing this on a self-imposed budget since I’m not good enough to warrant new, exotic, pricey stuff and I’m pretty sure anything made in the last 20 years will do nicely.    So given all that, anyone have any specific suggestions on a good/prefered model Callaway driver that can be had for around $50? If I earn better gear by improving my performance I’ll go after it then, get fitted for clubs again, all that. But for now my goal is bogey golf so I’m limiting my golf allowance accordingly.    Thanks, cheers, and happy golfing.  As examples, I’m looking at RAZR, BBII, X460, Fusion FT series, Diablo, etc. and I can’t tell if they are all good and I should just shop price or if one or more are preferable over others. TIA…
    • G'day all. My name's Glenn and my mates call me Corbs. I'm a 50-something-year-old Aussie who HATED golf until COVID when I got utterly and irrevocably hooked. I'm playing three rounds a week and loving it. My best mate that I started golf with during COVID hit an Ace this week! Our foursome - including his son - all watched the ball disappear and we went absolutely mental! Only been playing a few years and improving quickly and trying to get to under 17 handicap this year. Thanks for having me!
