I am fine with the constistency between pros and ams but if a rule meant to effect the pros ends up only effecting the amateurs, why keep it.

I'd be willing to bet it has effected the Pro's games, it's just that you're looking in the wrong area. Many are using higher spinning balls to offset this change. Which typically will lead to less accuracy and distance off the tee.

I highly doubt they will change the rule back any time soon. One thing is pretty clear the USGA doesn't make decisions on whims. They base their decisions on years of data analysis, market impact, and input from various sources. One year of the new grooves isn't enough to determine if the rule is effective or not.

If they changed the rule back, Bob Vokey would go all Bob Barker on somebody. There was a bit on him the other night and he was commenting on how he had to bust it out to retool all those wedges in a small time frame.

I purchased new irons this spring with the new grooves. Honestly, I cant tell that much difference between them and my old irons. I have had a few fliers out of the rough, but is it the new grooves, or poor ball striking?
As far as the wedges go, most pros replace their wedges 2 or 3 times a season and are always playing wedges with sharp new grooves. The vast majority of amateurs are using wedges that have worn grooves, and would probably have more spin with a new wedge with "V" grooves than a worn wedge with "U" grooves.
