Does anybody here actually use the PURE grips that were reviewed on this site. I'm thinking about getting some but want to hear what other people think before I do. Thanks.

I have the Pure Pro on my Hybrid just to test it out. I love it so far, and haven't had the desire to test the other 4 that I recieved from Pure, I like the Pro too much. I had about 45 seconds for installing it on a new shaft (only because I didn't have a vise). Looking to buy the whole set with air gun soon.

Just found these online for those of you looking to buy the PURE grips http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/pure-g...-grip-kit.html

The link is for the Pro model, but they have the other ones available as well. 13 grips plus the install gun for $49.99.

I've put PURE Pro on all my clubs and simply love the grips. Removing the old grips and tape took some time, installing the new ones took 15 seconds each grip. I love how they feel, not too tacky, but got that rubbery feeling in my hands. The reason I went with the Pro model was that it was the only clean grip, meaning it doesn't have the bumpy part wound down it. I don't like those kind of grips, so I went ahead and bought 13 PURE Pro without trying them first.

$50 for the grips and installation gun is in my eyes a very good price.

If I did end up going with the PURE grips is there anything that would make getting the old tape of easier? Also, I cook for a living and my hands kill me from repetitive motion so I was looking at the PURE Soft Wraps (the red ones). Does anybody have any experience using these?

A hair dryer set on high will help soften the old tape. If it's steel you can basically scrape it off... good luck (take care) with graphite shafts.

Yeah, just email them. They're pretty good about helping you out. Tell 'em The Sand Trap sent ya.

Funny you should say this. I had exactly this problem yesterday. I just kept dipping the shaft into white spirit and scraping with my fingernail. Nasty and time consuming.

All I could think at the time was "Imagine being a pro and quoting a guy $5 a club to replace grips when they're all graphite". You'd be there a week doing it.

Nah. Those pros just slap the old grip on over the old crusty tape. C'mon, you think they're gonna do what you did? No way.

yea thats why I always replace my own, you know they are just trying to do it as fast as possible. Most will probably just put the new tape over the old but Ive found a hair dryer to get it off easily.

Now I know why those transparent grips exist. Insist on them when you get your graphite shafts replaced when that swing speed decreases, Iacas

So, after more than 6 months after my original post, I finally got and put on PURE grips... I ended up getting the Soft Wraps (the red ones). Β Before this, my clubs had Lamkin PermaWraps on them and I had a couple clubs with the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G so these are pretty similar. Β The installation process was very simple... it took a while for me to cut the old grips off and clean off the old tape but the process of actually putting the new grips on was as simple as they make it out to be.

Based on the various comments and reviews here on TST about the Pure Grips, I decided to give them a try.Β Β  For those who have a short attention span and don't want to read further, here's my short answer:Β  Pure grips are great! Β  Β Β  For those looking for a little more info, here's my experience:

  • I ordered a set of 13 Pro (firm - yellow) grips with the air gun installation tool for $49 through Amazon.Β Β  Service was outstanding, as I ordered them on Wednesday and received them on Friday.Β Β Β Β  I popped them on my Mizuno MP-62s on Friday night and played a couple rounds this weekend - here are my thoughts:
  • As always, pulling off the old grips was the hardest part.Β Β  I have a vice and used a hooked blade, so getting the grips cut off is easy but taking the old tape off is a bit of a pain.Β Β  The irons weren't too bad but the composite shafts on the woods make it very sticky.Β Β Β Β  A sharp fingernail and patience seemed the key.
  • Installation was very easy.Β Β  I have a compressor built in my garage with air piped around my workbench, and I've used air to pop off and on regular grips before, but the Pure grips are far easier. Β  I don't know if it is the rubber compound or something else, but they expand just the right amount with a little air.
  • To build up the right grip size I used a single wrap of blue 3M painter's tape.Β Β  From experience I know it will come off fairly easily if I need to change it in the future.
  • The Pure grips slipped right on with a little air.Β Β  I found the best technique was to give it little short bursts while pushing the grip on.Β Β Β  I installed them with logos down so getting them perfectly straight wasn't necessary, but I'm enough of a perfectionist that I wanted it aligned anyway.Β Β  If I was slightly off, just a few short bursts of air and they rotated easily into place.
  • Overall, it took about 20 minutes to regrip all 13 clubs, with most of that time pulling off the old tape.Β Β Β  I suspect I could regrip the whole set now in about 5 minutes if needed.Β Β  Really easy.

And now the most important part - how do they play?Β Β Β  I've been using Tour Velvets for quite awhile, and the Pure Pro Firms are pretty much a carbon copy in pattern but they feel tackier.Β Β  Saturday's round was about 90 degrees at a course north of Los Angeles, and the grips felt nice and sticky despite any perspiration on my hands.Β Β  Today's round was at Torrey and it wasn't as warm, and they still felt delightfully tacky.Β Β Β  I like the firm feel of the Pro's - combined with the smaller forged heads on the Mizunos I get really good feedback through the hands, but it doesn't feel at all harsh or uncomfortable.

My only dislike about the grips is really trivial - I don't care for the color coding.Β Β  I'd rather have the color accents match the blue color theme I've got going with my headcovers, and I've never really liked yellow which is the color code for the Pro Firm grips.Β Β Β Β Β  Since the different models of Pure grips are all differentiated by either size or grip pattern, color coding isn't really needed to determine which grip to pick, and I'd rather have a choose color by what I like rather than what I need.Β Β Β  But this is really trivial, and after two rounds I'm over it.

Although I only have two rounds on them so far, I am very impressed.Β Β  If they prove to wear well over time and provide a decent grip when the rainy season gets here (OK, here in San Diego that's a relative term) then I'm pretty sold on Pure and will likely be a fan for life.Β Β Β  And if they come out with color options in the grip style I want I won't be tempted by some other manufacturer's sexy new line up!

Pure was at our local driving range today offering a free grip. I didn't know and all I had was my putter and a old 1 iron, they gripped the 1 iron.Β  The color code is white, they didn't mention color coding at the time, and white is not shown on their website. (a special 1 iron grip?)Β  Compared to the soft bedroom slipper Winn Lite Hero's I have on my clubs the Pure white feels like course mud mat. I don't wear a glove and the Pure feels like it will rip up my hands.

Installation: He put a strip of regular masking tape over the old tape. (In this case 40-50 years old). 80 psi on the compressor. They went on easily enough.

Performance: Pure wins over the Winn Lite's. I didn't realize how much "bounce" the Winn Lite's have. Damn, I hate wearing a glove.

PS: Golfsmith will be carrying them. I'll have them install the first set removing the old masking tape. (Which the local guy does anyway.)

I won a set of customized PURE Pro grips a few weeks ago.Β  They are the bomb!!Β  And I'm not just saying that because they were free, but I don't see myself using anything but PURE Pro's from now on.Β  The set I won were customized/personalized, and I was able to have them done in black with white paint fill.Β  They look and feel awesome!

Great grips as long as they stay dry.

Not the greatest when wet, actually quite slick.

Although I hadn't felt any slippage with a little perspiration on my hands, your comment made me try a little experiment with my new Pure grips.Β Β Β  I just took some water and wet the grip a bit, and you're right - they're quite slippery. Β  So slippery it feels like one squirted on some motor oil instead of just a little water. Β Β  I've played several more rounds on them and haven't found that to be a problem yet while playing, but I can see these would NOT be the grips when it gets a bit rainy.Β Β Β Β Β  Not a bit deal for my normal play here in southern California, but when the rainy season hits or I go traveling somewhere I may have to find something else.

Your both right!Β  I just wet my free sample with water and it feels like I used oil. They are not going on the rest of my clubs.
