Purchased a new set of AP2's off ebay. Brand new in the factory box, and in original plastic. I called Titleist to validate the serial number and it turns out that the serial number belongs to a demo set of irons.

I'm fairly confident that there's no differences in a demo set vs. a non-demo set, but though I'd ask just to be sure. These clubs have no markings whatsoever to indicate that they are "demos." The only indicator is the serial which one would have to contact Titleist to find that out.

I got a good deal on them, so assuming no playability differences between them and a non-demo set, I'm happy.

I can't imagine that demo sets are worse ... isn't the point of them to convince you to buy a set of the clubs?

I can't imagine that demo sets are

Exactly my thinking. I mean, I've hit all kinds of demo sets at demo days and just messing around with new clubs at the course and I've never noticed anything different about them. Typically demo sets have the word "DEMO" wrote in big bold letters on the grip and that distinguishes them from the non-demo sets, but these have the standard Titleist Tour Velvets. So, no signs that show they are a demo set. Majority of the time, demo sets are there for fittings and what not, so you'd want them to be identical to the actual non-demo clubs you're purchasing.

These clubs were probably sleighted to be a demo set for a shop or were going to someone that is green grass staff (club pro) and they decided to sell them on Ebay. For the pro it is a quick buck, but if Titleist found out they would probably cut them off for the staff program.

Yeah I was communicating with the seller before purchasing and he/she informed me that they were an authorized Titleist dealer. So, I assume they were set to be a demo set for a shop somewhere. This same seller has numerous auctions which are exactly like the auction I won; same desc, same pics, same everything. So not sure how many demo sets they have but they're probably making some good money on them.

When you say factory-sealed box, do you mean it has the Titleist branding on it? Did you ask the seller about the "demo" status of them?

Yep, everything factory shrink wrapped, and it was shipped in original box with Acushnet/Titleist/Cobra branding on the outside of the box. No I haven't asked yet, but am going to. I will post back once they confirm.

i wouldn't think there is any difference at all. probably just a way for Titleist to keep track of their products , vendors, and where certain clubs are coming/going if a problem arises

Then--without knowing for sure--I would assume there isn't any technical difference between a demo set. I would imagine that is simply the reason you received a nice price on them.

The only reason I asked is because I was recently a victim of ebay knockoffs , and the manufacturer must have stolen a serial number from a display set in order to get a valid serial number on the knockoffs. Brandon

My MP 57s are demos also, I have found nothing about them that would make me think they are anything less than normal.

Yeah I guarantee the seller made a nice little profit on them even selling for $700. I saw your thread about the MP68's. They look extrememly good to be counterfeit. Did you ever confirm for sure that they are fake? I'm certain mine are not counterfeit, however, just wish the seller had listed them as "demo" irons as I probably would have bid less. But, oh well. The Titleist rep I spoke with today to confirm the serial number asked where the seller sent the irons from and I told her Wisconsin and she confirmed that the serial number is listed as a demo set in Wisconsin.

The seller got back with me and said that even though Titleist said the serial number belongs to a demo set, he doesn't believe they are a demo set. He said they sell 100's of sets just like this and "demo" means they put a sticker of them that says "demo."

Now I'm not sure what to do. Could be that he knows they are a demo set and is just saying this, or he could really believe that they are not a demo set and just not know for sure. Really odd though that Titleist would have the set listed as a demo set, but the seller who claims to be an authorized Titleist dealer would claim that he doesn't think they are a demo set. Someone has the wrong information. I really don't think the seller is trying to rip me off or else they wouldn't even have responded again since they've already have my money. He offered to allow me to return them even after stating that they don't accept returns in the auction listing. Whether they are demo irons or not, I don't believe they are counterfeit.

If they feel fine, I wouldnt worry about it. No one is going to judge you for using what might possibly be a "demo" set.

yea just wait till you get them, you should be able to tell if they are fake. If you still have suspicions, call titleist and ask if you can send them one of the irons that you dont use much and have them check it out real good and then ship it back to you. Prolly cost you 20 bucks total for shipping both ways.

Yeah, I'm not worried about them being demos. More so that the seller who is supposed to be an authorized Titleist rep tells me that they're not demos but Titleist says the serial number belongs to demos... something weird there.

I'm 99.9% sure they're not fake. I received them yesterday.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with demo clubs. If anything they are better. How many times have you tried out clubs and thought they were gret then when you buy some they suck? lmao

I don't think you have anything to worry about, even if they are demos. They're not fakes, and you probably got a good price on them. It sounds like everything is on the up and up based on what the manufacturer said. Enjoy them.
