Guys,

I just bought a Nike Dymo driver (didnt want to spend too much since i am a beginner). Somehow i feel i am not getting the right yardage out of my swing. Maybe i am overestimating myself :) Just need some opinions.

Here is the swing. The yardage was about 260 yards.

(You can judge my swing progression through my other videos as well)

So it a case of me overestimating my swing or improper driver selection.

Looks fine. You can't say for sure unless you get on a launch monitor.

You're a 20??? Not a bad swing at all.

Eric,

I downloaded this excel sheet from the internet which is supposed to calculate the handicap ( http://gearpatrol.com/blog/2008/07/1...lculator-free/ ). And it calculated mine to be 11.1 . Anyways, i dunno how true this excel sheet is. So i never bothered to change my handicap. Maybe it is really 11.1.

Even though i am a beginner, I am very well coached ....so i am pretty confident about my swing.

So i take your opionion in general is that this swing looks like a 260 yard swing :)

Posted
It doesn't look like you are generating a ton of club head speed but that is a nice swing for a beginner. You should be very happy with 260 yard drives provided they aren't hit deep into the trees.

Posted
yea your swing looks good... if your hitting it 260 and youre a beginner that is pretty good. your driving distance is sufficient so i would not at all worry about that as much as your driving accuracy. the more you play the better you will hit the ball and probably add some distance as you go.

Guys,

The reason why i posted is that several incidents have left me spooked about my driver distances.

1.) I hit my 3 wood 240 yards with ease and 250 if i have some assistance . I believe the differential between driver and 3 wood should be greater than 20 yards.
2.) I hit my friends Titeliest 909 driver few weeks ago and i measured 290 and 285 yards.

But i will take the majority's view. Coz, even i feel that i am swininging slower than i am capable of.

Posted
2 things.

maybe you can get a different driver that fits you better...its more what shaft and clubhead fits you better...not as much what brand or model it is.

and 2ndly.. if it feels like you are swinging slower than you are capable of, dont combat that by trying to swing harder...that will get you out of whack... what you are doing now is just fine and you will naturally swing faster the more you golf...

First of all, 260 is a very decent distance.
We have a similar handicap, so maybe I can help you decide. I also bought the Dymo driver for the same reason, and my previous club was a Titleist 905R. Judging just by a good contact with each driver, I prefer the Titleist, its feel was so much better. Now, considering that I don't have a good contact as often as I'd like, the Nike is a more forgiving club; in the proper hands, the shot shaping capabilities of the Titleist are an advantage, in my hands not so much (the mistakes are magnified).
Once or twice per round I manage to hit my Nike driver in the sweet spot; the ball flies as long as with my older driver. My advice is keep practicing on improving your contact, the gain in distance will come.
I see a Titleist driver in my future, when I get better and have more consistency; for now, the Dymo is more than good for me.

iammpspeer,
I am not looking for swing advice . But thanx anyways. :)

halcon,
I plan to stick with the same driver till next summer. And then i will go to a launch monitor fitting. I must that say, when i stand over that Titeleist...i get a sense of confidence that i will smash that ball :)

westcyderydin,
You are right that swinging harder would be a recipe for disaster. Atleast with this swing i am on the fairway most times. I would like to keep it like that.

Thanx all for the advice.

Nice posture and alignment. Looks like you are very well-coached.

I'm no teaching pro, but, I'm going on a limp here and say that you can surely generate more speed and distance. Your fundamental is decent, but I'm just going to state the obvious that your take away is way too flat. Evidently, both of your arms are lower than your shoulder level at the top of the swing. To get the idea of the take away that generates power, refer to my avatar of Tiger's take away and you'll know what I mean).

I'm not here to criticize your swing, but I used to have the exact same problem and I was thinking the same way as you are now (that I can drive the ball farther). After some more inconsistent drives, I re-tooled and try to get my back swing more on-plane (more upright).

I can almost guarantee you that you will see your drives go further and more consistent. With the swing you have, you will be great in no time.

iammpspeer,

Where do you think a TON of your power comes from? The hips..... Thus the reason for my post, rarely can you blame the club for "lack of distance", especially with two modern clubs. Improve your hip turn, in my opinion, and you should be able to increase your distance, thus stopping your bi%&hing; about loss of yardage and "not getting the most" out of your club.

Its not the Arrow, it's the indian.

You are taking it to heart. If you read my earlier post you could see that I do agree that i dont swing fast enough. I just dont like to clutter my head with swing advice from anyone but my teacher. He has gotten me swinging well in a short amount of time...no reason to change that.

Nike Dymo is as long as anything else, my SQ Dymo Str8-Fit is the longest driver I've ever hit.

Swing looks pretty good, and 250 is a respectable distance for a single 'capper. Doesn't look like you're hitting it 250, but I certainly wouldn't worry about the club.

And don't post your swing if you don't want advice-just the way it works on here.

so I guess since you're gonna be completely closeminded to any advice here I'll just go with one of the answers you asked:

You're overestimating your swing.

I agree, why post your swing if you don't want swing advice? The swing tips (eg. iammpspeer's) are very valid, and valuable to most golfers. If you're a beginner I'll give you a tip (not a swing tip), the type of club you use means very little. A good golfer will shoot within a few strokes or just as good with a set of clubs at slightly lesser quality. It's the wrong place to focus your attention if you ask me.

You have a great swing for a beginner, but you're not doing yourself a disservice by listening to tips here and there from people that know what they're talking about.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
