So, I pulled my 4 hybrid out of the bag today, don't need it (or want it) anymore. Gave my 3 away 2 weeks ago, will do the same with this one. So I have room for another club. Looking at my setup, my PW is 45* and then I have the 52-56-60 set in my signature. I hit my PW as my 130 club but my 52 I only feel comfortable at around 110-115. Would adding the 50* be of benefit to me or should I learn to hit the PW to cover the gap?

Not many players carry 4 wedges in his/her bags, including tour players. Most tour players are carrying 2 wedges, 52* and 58* are the most common loft. But if you like 4 wedges in your bag, so be it.

50+52 is just too close. I'd look at a 48 or 49. I'm retooling my wedge setup - I had a 47/52/55/58 and am going to a 47/50/54/58 5,3,3 gaps replaced with 3,4,4. I think 4 is a pretty good distance between wedges. For me, anyway...

Yeah I think 4 is too many for me. I've actually thought about just getting the 50* and taking out the 52*.

Oh that's another good thought. Thanks. Guess I'll just have to think about this some more. Would be nice to get something for 115-120, I seem to be at that yardage a fair number of times per round. Maybe the 49* will be perfect for that.

Don't compare with tour players to amateurs. I would venture out to say that 56° and 60° is a more popular combination on tour. Most of the more well known touring pros don't carry a 52°. You can't compare amateurs to pros since the pros have a much better feel and can hit most distances with just even one wedge. It's not a bad thing to have 4 wedges in the bag as a amateur. I have 4 but rarely use the lobwedge except for real tight approach shots or super thick green side rough where I can aggressively play a chunk and run.

To the OP, I hit my PW about 130 and my 52° about 110 MAX. Usually the 52° only goes about 100 so I learned to take a 3/4 PW that goes about 110-120. Try practicing with your PW and if that doesn't work you can deloft your PW by a degree and make you 52 into a 51 to close out the gap.

Not that many amatures carry 4 wedges either. My club has 50 members, i did not see any of them them carring 4 wedges. I am playing single often with many guys in the public course, and i did not see many of them are playing 4 wedges either. Like i said, if you like to play 4 wedges that's fine but not too many amatures or pros carry 4 wedges in their bags.

And go check with "What's in the bag" in the Golf Channel, many tour pros do carry 52* wedges.

sorry not to be a dick but...do you really hit your wedges accurate enough that 5-10 yard difference makes a difference...?

choke down a couple inches on your PW and you got yourself a shorter shot. Learn to control your swing and distance before you go buying a bunch of wedges to cover for 10 yard differences.

Another wedge is overkill.

Swapping the 52* for a 50* might be the best bet. (See my sig).

Also, you might consider making up a Range Card for your wedges, since you have varying degree gaps. Have a row for each wedge, and do some tests at the range to determine how far you hit each at quarter, half, and three-quarters swing. For this to be worth the effort, you need to practice just on your wedges once a week. This is also a good check to see if you have too many wedges for your game. ---------------- Note: I ran into one guy who carries 5 wedges (PW and 4 others). He's a 6-foot-5, lean and strong former college basketball player who hits the ball a long way. He hits his full PW about 150 yds., so he needs the other 4 wedges just to have some variety in close.

. . . a bunch of wedges to cover for 10 yard differences

For me, too many wedges stifles my creativity (sure) - around the green and even off the tee. I carry 3, 2, and 1 in the 3 sets I'm rotating now. In my main gamer set I have 3 - 50.5 (pulled the PW), 56, 60.

I agree. I carried around 3 wedges for awhile and decided to just stick with 2. I can cover all distances less than 135 yards with my PW, 56, 60.

to the OP - I see a lot of amateurs sit there and calculate their degree gap difference and calculate their distance, etc etc. stop! wedges aren't all meant to be calculated by full swing distance. You're much better off controlling your wedge shots by taking 3/4 or 1/2 swings to get the right distance and trajectory. If you normally hit your PW 120 but you want to hit 110...then choke down and/or hit it a bit softer instead of taking a 50* wedge and taking a full shot. Much mroe reliable (for me atleast...)...its just overkill.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try out the range card plan before making any purchases, that's a good idea.

I wanted to have a stock 125 PW so I got my bent, but wasn't comfortable with the added bounce, and the leading edge seemed off so I got my 52* GW bent to 50.5. I have 20 yard gaps between full 9, GW, and 56 shots and an armsy 60.

Goto a golf shop in your area and have the 52* bent to 50*. It will only cost a couple of bucks to have this done and then your clubs will be in sync. The only other thing I would have done is bend the 56* bent to 55*. Then you are 5* between scoaring clubs ala Ryan Moore.

PS- My PW is 48* in my signature set,so I carry 4 wedges. Your PW is the same loft as my 9 iron.I have been experimenting with a set with 5* between clubs instead of 4*. This set goes-60-55-50-45-40-35-30-25 and then hybrids. So far working out great!

You tell me - there are guys hitting 125 yard 60 degree wedges. I couldn't do that with Dustin Johnson's arms.
