I didn't mean anything by what I said. I just added that in case anyone else jumped in saying that I didn't know what I was talking about because I am not a fighter. Why do you want Silva to lose? I absolutely love watching him fight. He is one of the most gifted fighters I have seen in a VERY long time.

The old school Gracies were supposedly the toughest and slowest to promote their students to black belt. The younger Gracies seem more generous handing out black belts. Some also differentiate between using a Gi and without, so there are a number of variables.

I think that the Gi and no-GI plays quite a bit into it personally. So I can see why MMA fighters might get their belts a little quicker than normal but still not as quickly as some have gotten them. IMO, you need both GI and no-GI expertise to become a true black belt.

I don't think Sonnen will fair as well in the second fight. I mean the guy had Anderson in the absolute best possible position he could dream of for 22.5 minutes and still couldn't finish it. IF...IF, it was true about Anderson's ribs, the outcome of their second fight will be very different. If any of you have had rib problems, you know how painful that can be. And for him to do what he did with that bad of a rib injury, my hat goes off! Doing that to Anderson once is one thing...doing that back to back will be a totally different animal. IMO, Sonnen showed Anderson EVERYTHING he had. Sonnen didn't get to see half of Anderson's arsenal.

He is a VERY gifted fighter.

That being said, I can't stand him. I can't stand his attitude. I can't stand the way he treats people. That's all. He's a good fighter, and a terrible jerk of a person. I also don't like anyone that runs their mouth NON-STOP, i.e. Rampage, Koschek, etc.

He is a VERY gifted fighter.

From what i have seen, he only treats guys bad if he thinks they have disrespected him. It's hard to say anything about his attitude when his idiot of a manager puts words in anderson's mouth when translating. As far as everyone talking about him not fighting...if you can't get him in your fight, then that's your problem. That's my opinion anyway

I believe he had a rib injury, no reason to make that up after a victory. These guys train hard, it's a wonder more aren't injured during training.

As for a rematch, I agree that a healthy Silva will give Sonnen a much tougher fight, but I think Sonnen is a good enough grappler that he will still take him down. I'm sure Sonnen will train with alot of BJJ guys to make sure he doens't have a mental lapse like last time. Sonnen is probably the most rounded fighter Silva has fought in a while, most before him were heavy favored stand up or BJJ, Sonnen can fight on the mat or standing up.

Sonnen is without a doubt the most rounded fighter Silva has fought.

Fixed that for ya. :)

I don't know. Sonnen has been known to get caught in the triangle for years now....still hasn't fixed it. His standup is not nearly as good as it looked in this first fight. I mean come on...out of all of the guys Anderson has fought, Sonnen is the one that catches him in the standup? I don't think so. Something was for sure wrong with Anderson.

IMO, I think instant rematches are not good. To me, it kills the idea of the sport. I can see if it was a bad stoppage or a completely ridiculous decision. But if you get finished in a fight, you should HAVE to drop back and work your way back up. Carwin isn't getting an immediate rematch and he did basically the same thing. The problem is that Dana and a big majority of the fans want to see Anderson lose and Sonnen is the only one in the division who has the slightest chance. That is the ONLY reason he is getting a rematch so quickly. I think it's ridiculous and favoritism because he can hype the fight so much. I hope that Anderson goes out, puts a clinic on Sonnen, and destroys him this time. If Sonnen beats Anderson in their second fight, will Anderson get an immediate rematch? NOPE! You can bet your bottom dollar on that one.

Just like the favoritism Silva got in the 3rd round when he was on his knees and NOT defending himself while Sonnen was on his back? He was allowed to lay and rest for 45 seconds. His hands were BOTH UNDER his head with his face tucked. He did NOTHING to defend or make a move to retreat and it should have been called then. Should have been Ref stoppage.

Silva got lucky. I hope he gets knocked out. He will be exposed. He's definitely one of the best ever, I'll admit that easily. When he starts going downhill though he'll go downhill FAST. Besides, let's toss him and GSP in together. THAT'S a fight I wanna see! :)

I can guarantee you that if favoritism is shown in the UFC, Anderson Silva would be the LAST person it would be shown to. Dana White was probably praying to MMA Gods for weeks that Sonnen would beat Anderson. They will let it go longer when you are protecting your face and head. Silva is known for having a chin and he wasn't getting hurt. I'm sure the ref wasn't allowing Anderson to take a break. There is more to it than just hitting a guy that is in that position. A call like that can easily go wither way. Anderson didn't get lucky....that is a LAME excuse, IMO. If you watch the entire fight very closely, Anderson was setting the sub up for 2 or 3 rounds. I mean I could go through probably 75% of the fights and pick out points where it "could" be stopped. Exposed for what? Everyone knows that Anderson's weak spot is wrestling. His ONLY weak spot is his wrestling. Sonnen (self proclaimed best wrestler in the UFC) had him in EVERY wrestler's dream position for 5 rounds and couldn't finish. Anderson didn't get a bum decision...he tapped Sonnen out by a submission that Sonnen is known for being caught in. It was not lucky. It was good technique that was set up the entire fight and it paid off. Sonnen slipped and Anderson took advantage. That is BJJ. And that shows that Anderson has the heart and will to win even in the face of adversity. If anything, I think it showed that Anderson is going to be around for a long time. He has only gotten better since coming over to the UFC, so if you are waiting for him to start going downhill....you are in for a long wait. GSP has no chance. He is much smaller and does less on the ground than Sonnen. I don't know why everyone wants to see this fight. I like GSP and have for a long time, but I don't think he has a shot against Silva. Look at what happened to Penn when he fought GSP. It will be the same situation when GSP fights Anderson. The weight classes aren't the same as they used to be. When you jump "up" to a weight class, you are automatically at a disadvantage because the guys that are in that class could fight the class above if they wanted to.

Champions get special considerations from refs, not Dana and the UFC. Once a match starts, Dana's opinion of the guy doesn't matter unless you buy into conspiracies that the UFC is fixed like some boxing federations.

The ref gave Silva the full benefit of the doubt when Sonnen was pounding him, Brock was given the same consideration against Carwin. You have guys out there like Roy Nelson who look to set up a crucifix, hit the guy with 20 - 30 love taps and hope the ref stops it because the other guy isn't defending, that's not the spirit of real MMA in my opinion.

While I wanted Silva to lose against Sonnen I'm glad it wasn't a lame stoppage like that. Sonnen didn't really hurt Silva on the ground, after the 2nd round and didn't do enough to cause the ref to stop the fight. If someone had a right to be upset about not getting the stoppage, it's Carwin, because imho, Brock was hurt and not defending himself for close to 2 minutes.

A GSP vs. Silva fight would be a snoozefest. Silva would dance and GSP would lay and pray. No interest at all

Dana White (The president) said a boxer in UFC fighting won't happen again.

Man we have pretty much the same opinions on MMA. Usually I am about the only one that sees things in MMA this way. The only thing we didn't agree on was Anderson. I did not and still don't want Sonnen to win. And no, I don't buy into any conspiracy theories, although sometimes I could see where one might think that. Those are usually the ones that think the refs and judges are actually employees of the UFC.

Dana White (The president) said a boxer in UFC fighting won't happen again.

I don't blame him. There is nothing to gain from him doing it....even with Toney. They have the sport that they concentrate on and MMA has their sport. Of course neither would do as well in the other. They like to boast that they would, but it very rarely happens. And this just stems from the age old boxers are better than MMA guys. Sure, in boxing they may be. But it will never happen in MMA because there is just too much more that you have to worry about than getting punched. Most of them think that with their speed and the fact that they have 4 oz gloves in MMA, that all they have to do is connect once and it's over. While that may be true, connecting on a guy that's throwing kicks and taking you down in a cage is a entirely different thing.

I was a Silva fan until the Maia fight where he attempted to humiliate Maia and was very disrespectful. I understand that Silva was upset at some of Maia's pre-fight comments, but nothing Maia said warranted Silva's behavior. His actions dishonored himself, the UFC, his martial arts schools and instructors. Sonnen is a wind bag, but most of what he said was pre-fight hype, not intended to dishonor Silva or the UFC.

As for boxers in the UFC it was a publicity stunt by Toney to get some press. Bernard Hopkins said it best, boxers don't belong in an Octagon because any decent MMA fighter will go for the legs and take them down to the mat where the boxers skills are worthless. He said if an MMA fighter wanted to challenge a boxer in the ring he'd be up for that. Dana has to be careful with what he does with Toney because he takes pot shots at Strikeforce for having guys like Bobby Lashley and Hershal Walker in their promotion. Toney would lose to both of those guys in an octagon.

This is my take on that. I understand the honor and respect of martial arts as I have been involved with them over the course of my life. One big reason for martial arts is having the ability to defend yourself, not join the UFC to beat the crap out of some guy for money. So IMO, if you are in the UFC to beat some guy up for money and a belt, then the honor and respect should not be so highly sought after either. I mean come on, when it comes down to it, there are two guys in there fighting. Most fighting has a great deal of emotional content involved. So, if Maia was disrespecting Anderson's skill level and his BJJ camp, then I am sure that fired him up. Another thing...Anderson has been boo'd, talked about by fans and his boss in the UFC, and even had to defend himself time and time again because people say he won't fight just because he chooses not to go to the ground against a ground guy. Why should he have to put up with that? If you can't take Anderson down (which is a big part of MMA), then why should he just voluntarily jump on the ground with a top level BJJ practicioner? In the Maia fight, all of this had built up and when Maia couldn't do ANYTHING with Anderson on his feet and got knocked down....he would just sit there until the ref basically made him get up. All of the motioning and what not that Anderson did to him while he was on the ground was justified. If Anderson gets borderline disciplined for "so-called" not fighting, then Maia should have too. And lastly, if Maia said things about Anderson pre-fight, then Anderson had every right in the world to go in there and defend his arts' "Honor", by showing Maia just how much higher of a level he was on than Maia. Not to mention that quite a bit of what he was doing was Capoeira and for the people that don't know that art, it looked like he was makign fun and joking around. Maia is just embarrassed that he got showed up so badly after talking so much crap. To me, it just looked like he was in the moment (I mean it is a fight) and was just having fun with it. That is much more impressive than some of the crap that Brock has done...or Tito...or BJ, etc...the list could go on and on.

Ok, ok Tn. We get it. Your swinging from Silvas. It's all good. We're allowed not to like him and he CERTAINLY hasn't earned my respect.

Who is making excuses now? Oh yeah...Silva and his fans. Again. :)

Look, it's all good. It's just a matter of personal tastes and opinion. I can respect that you like him and I've even admitted he's a good fight. It's ok to disagree. You may prefer one club and I another. You may prefer baseball and me football. It's all gravy. :) His time IS coming though, and soon. LOL (personal opinion of course.)

Now see, we are having a good conversation and then you have to come and say some stupid hater crap. No one is swinging from anyone's anything. And "nuthugger" (which is what you are referring to) is one of the MOST MMA newbie terms I have ever heard!! What an idiot? Go back to watching the toughman slugfests! You want to voice your opinion but when I voice mine, I am swinging from someone's ****. Grow up.. I would say that about anyone and have in the past. I like the sport and what MMA is all about. I am making a point about how the sport should be more equal than I am about Anderson. Everyone hates on him because he is beating the crap out of everyone. You can not like him if you want. No one has said anything about that. Everyone's time is coming...are you kidding? No one will go forever unbeaten. Otherwise the sport would never grow...What excuses are you referring to? Who has made excuses? Now that I read this, I wasn't even responding to you. I was talking to Newtogolf.... Anderson is not my favorite fighter by any means. I like watching him fight. But I don't necessarily consider him a favorite. For one, Anderson can talk really good english but he allows Soares to do this for him because it will be translated in a "politically correct" way. I don't like that. There are a few quirks about Anderson like that and I don't like it.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
