If I bought a set of Titleist AP1's off the rack, all standard, then went out and played them and decided to be fit, can a retailer still send them to Titleist to be changed to my specs?

I wanted to see how I played them with them being standard and then change if needed, I know in Ping I am a 3 degree upright plus 1/2 an inch, but my DCI Oversize+ are standard and I hot them pretty well.

Any golf shop can make lie adjustments, they don't have to be sent back to Titleist. You'll just need to do a dynamic lie fitting for each club, which is no more than putting a special tape on the bottom of the club and hitting off a lie board. Again, any place that does club repairs should have that stuff available. Last time I had it done, I think it was about $3 per club to bend them.

Now, if you want to add or cut length from the shaft, that will be quite a bit more costly.

I have done the lie board before with Ping clubs, I don't think I ever did it with a standard set though, but like I said I seem to hit the DCI's fairly well and may take a shot with a standard set and adjust if needed. I am sure Golf Galaxy can adjust the lie for me if needed.

Get the lies checked at least. A couple bucks a piece. I wouldn't worry about the length unless they were too long. When you start adding length you start adding $ especially after the fact.

I would go ahead and get fitted for them from the start. That will you will know they are right. You could go out with them being incorrect for your swing and probably still play pretty descent. I would save myself the time and worry and just do it from the beginning...especially on a new set.
