My 60* wedge is knackered.
there's a big wear mark on the face, some of the chrome is gone on the sole and has turned yellow. I'm only getting around 60-70 percent of the spin I was getting last year.

I've practised with it a load over the past year and a half, But so has my friend who has a Ping (forgot the name) wedge, he has his in a darker finish though so maybe it's masking the wear?
My other friend just has a Cobra FP SW and it looks brand new even though he has had it for 4 years and practises with it 3-4 times a week.
Another friend has a SW from the 60's that his grandad used, it still looks in good condition.

Do newer model wedges wear faster than the older models?

my vokey is the same way but the reason i found online is that they use a softer face and this is better at first but they dont last, break down quickly so it would be best that they are replaced at least every 2 years wich is what im doing... costly yes but good for winning junior tourney's :)

Vokeys are made of carbon steel, which is softer than the steel used for PING's wedges (except for PING's brand new Tour-S Rustique wedges). Softer wedges will wear a bit faster.

I've noticed that the chrome on my 58's sole is coming off but I haven't seen any performance benefits. In the last few days, I was able to spin it back 20 feet (granted it was from a fairway bunker) and 10 feet on a full shot from the fairway. I had rarely done this when I first got them. Anyways, I do feel like there's a tad less spin on shorter shots and my improvements in technique (index went down from 12 to 6.4 and my swing has improved) could also be "hiding" the decrease in spin.

On full shots from the fairway I still get a lot of spin, but when I'm chipping from next to the green in the rough I don't get as much check as I used to.

i replace my wedges each year
i put in over 60+ rounds in a short 5 month year and practice 3 times a week as well AND in the winter twice a week
my wedges are toast by the end of the year

i think some new Titleist TVD's or Scratch Wedgies will be in the bag next year

I have a few new wedges at home but my favourite wedge set (in the bag right now) was purchased in ~ 1995. My 2009 Vokey is in a bag somewhere - no use for that rusty POS.

You cant really compare the durability of a carbon steel wedge like a Vokey to a stainless steel wedge because carbon steel is a softer metal.

I have a Vokey spin milled 58° wedge. It wore out pretty fast especially if you were using it to get out of bunkers often. Same story as you, after a while it just lost its bite. Especially on the short shots forcing me to adjust to it all the time. My Callaway c-grind wedges have just as much spin now as they did when they were brand new. The consistency is so nice to have and it helped my short game a bit. Even after hitting many bunker shots practicing at my local driving range they still haven't changed much at all. They have a little less spin compared to a new vokey but after a few short months I'd rate them pretty even. After a year of use for each club my callaways will probably have more spin.

If you don't mind replacing the wedge theres nothing wrong with it. I simply went from using the Callaway Tour Ix ball to the Tour I which gave me the spin back along with helping my long irons stop easier (now if I can just hit the green more often with my long irons ).

I was given a Vokey for my birthday this year.

The Vokey is great, but agree it wears out pretty quick. I also have Snake Eyes 685 box Wedges. The Snake Eyes are still spinning the ball pretty good even after over a year of use.

I bought a used, cheap Hogan wedge that I use just off the sand......do not need a high spin wedge off the sand as I already get a lot of spin if I hit correctly.

Will I buy a Vokey in the future ----- probably not as I am very happy with the Snake Eyes.

Do not get me wrong, Vokeys are great wedges, just do not last very long.
