I guess I'll preface this with a bit of embarrassment. I had a fairly consistent swing that I developed on my own, and after one lesson from a PGA pro (who wasn't very good in my opinion), I've really messed up my swing and can't get back into my rhythm anymore.

This is what my swing paths look like now on the backswing and then the downswing:

The backswing feels and looks like a normal backswing. I'm taking my hands inside (which is new to me) up to the top, with the plane looking pretty on point. Shoulders pointed to the ground, but probably not as much as I could or should.

...but when I perform the downswing, somehow my swingpath gets completely off target. I swing past the ball, leading to hosel rockets or pretty extreme slices.

I can't seem to get the club square to the ball, or even at the ball anymore. If I want to hit something that looks like a normal shot now, I'd set my club about two inches behind it and about another two inches further way from me so my club will actually catch the ball. This is obviously something I shouldn't do, but I'm just trying to understand how this is even happening.

Without a swing video this may be hard/impossible to diagnose, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

Not sure if I really understand your picture, is it meant to show the clubface, and is it moving in-to-out with an open clubface?

Define your ball flight. Does it start left and slice to the right, start straight and slice to the right, or start right and slice farther to the right?

And yes, a video would help a lot.

Correct, open clubface position and an in to out swing path.

As far as ballflight, it would start right and slice harder right. I also seem to be topping a ton of balls as well with this recent problem I'm facing. Any help would be appreciated.

Look, I doubt your swing path is very much in to out, if at all... what proof do you have of that?

A ball starting right and moving more right is primarily an indication of an open clubface. What we don't know is where your swingpath is going. If you are hitting extreme slices, I doubt you are swinging in-to-out, as that would give a softer push-fade. A push-slice with out-to-in swingpath will give you a ball starting right and just slice into OBlivion.

2 thoughts - 1. This doesn't sound quite right to me and 2. See a different pro. If you lost your swing after just one lesson it probably had issues to begin with (I say this as someone with issues).

And why is that?

Perhaps I'm not using the right terms to describe it.

All I meant is that on the downswing my clubhead is pretty dramatically further outside the ball than it was at address (what my diagrams were trying to show). It feels like the plane at which I'm on for the backswing is steeper than that of the downswing, causing me to swing outside the ball instead of at it.
