There were free lessons for children on at the range near my home when I was around 6. I'd go down every weekend and hit a few balls. The stopped it after a few months and I didn't get back into golf for a while.

Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus.... They were the top players when I first took an interest in the game, and it was watching them play on TV that really piqued my interest. Nobody in my family played to any significant extent before I did. My Mother would go out and knock it around a bit (very badly.... very very badly, and my Dad was worse) about the time I was graduating from high school, but I think mostly just because my Dad got a free CC membership as a perk for his job.

I never caught the bug until some 10 years later when the PGA Tour started being broadcast more regularly.

My father taught me how to play. Had me started when I was 3 years old and never stopped playing. Played a lot in middle school and everyday in highschool. But now in the military with family so lucky if I get to play once a week.

My Great uncle I guess... hes 90+ years old and hes telling me stories about how he plays golf (still) every other weekend... so I was like, man if he can do it I can do it. It would be nice to learn a sport that I can play for the rest of my life.
