Ok - so, I live up in the middle of nowhere Northern California. There are no golf stores nearby so I am always looking on Craigslist just to see what might be available. Today I looked and saw an ad from a guy wanting to trade a years membership at our local private course for a leather sectional sofa. He had won it at a company event and didn't play golf.

Not two days ago, my wife was nagging on me big time for not having gotten rid of that leather sectional sofa in our garage.

Guess what? I now belong to a country club! I'm going to play my first round on Tuesday afterwork.

Hah, that is a great story man, and a great deal you got there. Stuff like that only happen in the movies for most people.

Thats great. Reading that title reminded me of a lucky event happening to me on the gold course. I was near the green and attempted using my 60* (im horrible with it). As usual I hit the ball square and it goes in a very low angle at a speed that would land the ball 2x the distance to the green then what my initial shot was. Now you ask, where`s the luck in this? Well my ball luckly hits the flagstick and it lands on the green for a 10' putt.

And I now have a great leather sectional!

Lol, just joking, that guy wasn't me. Nice find though, and do enjoy the membership!

It's called Redwood Empire G & CC in Fortuna, CA (told you it was the middle of nowhere). The gift certificate covered the initiation fee and 1 year of dues (family, unlimited golf). This club has a bar and grill . .but they don't have a food purchase requirement.

I haven't played it yet but it doesn't really seem that much nicer than either of the publics around here. But not having to come up with greens fees means I will play a lot more golf next year and, from what I hear, this course is one of the most playable during the winter in this area.

Wow thats awesome haha. This thread prompted me to check my local craigslist for golf items and I found a Sun Mountain Three 5 bag for $80 brand new. I have been looking for a new bag and this one was at the top of my list. So thanks for posting this!

I'll trade my membership for a Veissmann Vitodens 100 high efficient gas-fired wall-mount condensing boiler and matching water heater. You can pick from three memberships... ;)

    • That’s totally fair. I have my chipping issues which make my putter more playable in that situation. Really just confirming that while not optimal there comes a point where if you need to use a putter (for whatever reason) then the optimal mechanics breaks down. I know I’m a sample of one. 😂
    • Day 329 - 2025-08-26 Hit 24 balls before lessons and JEP Summer Session. With the MP-33. 🙂 Put an undersized grip on my VR Pro accidentally.
    • Well, that's not really a putt at that point. You could easily choose to putt that up the slope with a hybrid or something.
    • Day 15 (August 26).  I missed practice yesterday, but otherwise had a 14-day streak going into it.  Somehow, some of my posts for this appear in my profile but I can't seem to see them (I hope I didn't break any rules that would cause them to be removed).  I am hoping I'll be able to keep doing some practice while I'm out to regain the red text.  Context:  am on vacation, this week with friends.  What was today's actual practice? Today, a friend and I decided to go to TopGolf;  it was kind of like being at the range with someone else's clubs.  And that's ultimately how I was able to use it for practice:  I don't practice choosing a target, lining up to it, and then hitting often enough;  that's what this place seems to be about.  In any case, we were there for 90 minutes, I was hitting for maybe 35-40 minutes of that time, and I did pick a target each time.
    • Day 2 - (26 Aug 25) - Church men’s golf nine hole Captains choice.  Had grandson as part of our group - was a blast watching him drill the putts.  Love these no pressure sessions - great for going outside the norm on club selection.
