Was always a Ping guy ... Rapture and then G10 (after failing miserably with others such as the R9 460). Dick's had a sale on Callaway FTiq i-mix Tour drivers and I got one. I'm (seriously) 20 yards longer. Amazing. So I say anything with Callaway on it. (I'm 63 and hitting GPS measured drives of 270-280 consistently now.)

Chubbs,

You're experiencing what I'm finding. Lots of excellent clubs out there. As long as it has the right shaft, there's several drivers, or iron models, which would work - providing I got used to them.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have a 909 d2 and love it. The best feel and sound of any driver I have ever hit. Whatever you go with, make sure to get fit, I bought mine at a demo day this spring and while there, I hit the 909 d2 head on 4 different shafts, I couldnt believe the difference in the ball flight between the shafts.

Easy. Depending on what you wanted from your driver.

Looks + (Better) Feel + Shot Shaping = Titleist 909 D2
Easy to hit (the G15 goes straight all day long) + Forgiveness = Ping G15

But I'm telling you this...

When you have a bad driving round, you will think of what would have been if you had picked the G15. I'm not big on Ping clubs, but I owned a few Titleist Drivers and ended up selling or giving them away to my cousins. Titleist clubs have very nice, beautiful classic looks, but they won't let you get away with a bad swing.

While Ping is not known for its looks, I have to admit that the G15 doesn't look that bad at all.

Good luck.

If you're not against GI drivers, try the Callaway FTiz driver, very straight and long!

I would go with the Ping. Hit the Titleist a few more times to convince yourself though. I think you will find that the Ping has a larger sweet spot. If the larger sweet spot is not an issue, then go with the Titleist because of its nicer sound and feel.

I picked up a new driver this past June. Based strictly on launch monitor numbers, the G15 and R9 460 were the longest and straightests for me. I went with the R9. My guess is the G15 might have been a little more forgiving on miss hits. I have been very happy with the R9. Longest driver I have ever gamed and the second most forgiving (most forgiving being the Callaway FTIQ).

I don't know much about the D2, but I am sure you would be happy with either the R9 or G15. Just depends on what you like the look, sound and feel of and which one has better stock shaft options that best fit your swing.

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

I think you have narrowed it down to two very similar drivers. They both have c classic style shape, and imo, sound and feel very similar. I personally was not fond of the G15, mostly because i think that stock red shaft that they use is very loose and flexes everywhere. I had trouble controlling the G15, while the 909D2 flew pretty good. I would personally prefer the 909, but as mentioned before, it doesnt matter what we think. Test both side by side and hit an array of shots, and look at stats aswell. Let us know what you choose!!

R9 drivers gave me TOO MUCH distance!!!!(270 yd+) I had to slow down my down swing and it negatively affected my tempo. I recently switched to D2 and it's the best decision I have ever made.

    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
