TM Burner Superfast driver is 46.5".

How can you swing with a club this long? Do you cut it down to 45" ?

Also it's said to be the lightest driver. But can you swing with a good tempo with a light driver?

Its been a big talk about the Superfast driver. 46.5" shaft is just plain ridiculous. For most people, standard is roughly 45 or 45.25". A lot of better players cut down to 44-45" so it makes no sense that hackers would play 46.5" shafts and still have better control over it. Its a big marketing ploy to push for a longer drive which alot of amateurs will fall for.

The stock DG steel shaft on my 22 year old TaylorMade Tour Driver TP is 43". Yet I hit it as far then as I do my Callaway Diablo now, mostly because with a shaft 2 inches shorter, I hit more shots in the middle of the clubface.

I had a SFTP and didn't like it at 46". Just too long, it actually felt like I was swinging it slower because the clubhead was so far out there. I realize it's only an inch, but that was the feeling. Plus, the shaft just didn't feel that stable, and I was using a Fubuki 73g, could feel it flex at transition. I cut it down to 45" and liked it MUCH better.

Back in the persimmon wood era, standard driver was 43" or 43 1/2". One day while playing, my driver shaft snapped in two on a routine tee shot. Just for fun, I had the repair guy put a 46" shaft on the persimmon driver to see what happened.

Good news: I hit the ball about 25 yards farther than before.
Bad news: On mishits, I often had to punch sideways out of the treeline to get back to the fairway.

At Thanksgiving, I had the repair guy trim it back to 43 1/2".

Also, check out the Hireko golf web site. They had a blog last year asking for suggestions for a "new wave" driver. About half of the posters wanted a 44" inch shaft.

Maybe a bit off topic, but I recently purchased this driver from GolfGalaxy and I don't remember it feeling longer or the guy mentioning it. Do all stock models have a longer shaft? If I want to measure my shaft length, where do I start/stop? Or is it indicated on the shaft somewhere?

Thanks

Taylormade Driver has longer shaft than standard 45". Easy to measure just use a long ruler and measure from the grip end to the base of the head. Put another short ruler on the base of the head and have it cross the long ruler, you will have the length of your driver.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
