Can you play golf in NY in November? May be taking a trip then and was going to try and play Beth Page if the weather is playable.

Yes its playable. It has snowed in November in certain years but rarely does. Temperatures may drop to low temps but if you don't putting on a sweater then you are good to go.

Some folks play year round as long as there's no snow. I played one day in mid January this year - it was in the low to mid 50s.

heh yeah i played in january this year too, it was what i imagine golfing after the apocalypse might look like. No leaves on the trees so everything just seemed dead and there were no people anywhere. the bright side was because all the grass was dead too, everything was fairway, there was no rough.

to the OP if you're planning on playing the Black Course at Bethpage, i would just check with them to find out when they close it for the season. Other courses there do stay open year round, but season ends for the black sometime in November, i believe.

Black is definitely closed during the winter, don't know the exact dates though.

I think they keep one or two courses open, can't remember that either, and I think Red is closed as well.

Another thing about winter golf: little skating rinks in the fairway bunkers. You really do not want to hit into an iced up bunker, it's like hitting into a cartpath that banks. Now that's a what I call a hazard.

As has been said, as long as there is no snow on the ground you are good to go.

Just dress in lots of layers. I mean, a base Under Armour type layer, then your normal golf shirt (I find cotton is better for cold), then a sweater (I like the long sleeve v-necks), and possibly a jacket over that if it's that cold (mostly only morning rounds are that cold).

In my bag:

Also two words: Frost delay.

Courses usually open up later.

Especially if it rained the night before and the course iced up.

November is still fine to play in the NYC area. Daytime average temps are in the 50's but since night time temps can be in the 30's frost is very likely in the morning so most places delay play until after 9:00 am.

Yeah, like everyone said. I've gotten the frost thing down pretty good too - clear skies, calm winds, temps at or below 40-42 degrees overnight. Figure there is probably some kind of delay. Clouds, breeze and of course warmer overnight temps all help keep frost to a minimum. During the day highs vary from the mid 40s to the high 50s, but it gets windy during the days too so wind-chills can make it seem colder. I like to walk from October through March (if I can get out) to keep the blood flowing - helps me stay warm.

BTW, it has been announced at Bethpage - 11/14 is the final day on the Black course and 12/5 is the final day on the Red (weather permitting).
