I think he was asking in a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek way...and probably wanted to wind Tiger up a bit.

Makes a change from all the usual over-reverential, incredibly dull, standardized questions most reporters ask him. Mind you, I think the comment from McIlroy would probably have annoyed Woods more...regardless of Woods' record in Ryder Cup, you don't want to be winding the opposition up like too much...

Because its a stupid question. Its golf. "you dont win majors anymore" "you dont win tournaments anymore" Give me a break. People go years without winning and then win a ton again. Covering golf he should know better. Thats not a polarizing question, its a stupid one.

Also, I don't think Rory meant he wants to play Tiger because he would be the easiest to beat. I think Rory wants to play Tiger because it would be a challenge. I can't imagine Rory taking a cheap-shot at Tiger.

Cheap-shot? Nah. Rory grew up idiolizing Tiger, he probably said it to fire him up a bit.

At least the reporter was honest, though it was a silly question. Better than the woman in one press conference that kept asking him "Do you still lover her (Elin)? Do you love her? Do you love her? Do you love her?". I'm sure she said it at least three or four times. Tiger is good at making the right answers, the press have gone much easier on him the last months compared to this spring.

Reporter was trying to get Tiger to take the bait and give him something to write about. Tiger is going to have to get used to reporters trying to get him to blow up, at least until he wins another major.
