The announcers on Sunday made many comments on how well KJ Choi drove the ball in FL. I did not hear anyone tell that he was using the new Nike SUMO (or SUMO2).

I wonder if any other player had the new Nike driver(s) in their bag? Or the Callaway FTi?

I thought his driver looked different.....only caught the last few holes but on the 18th it sure looked like a sumo. That lil guy has game!
Gonna try that club...and FT1...and...

Yea it was obvious from watching him at tee off that he was using something different.

Nike must have just loved it. I didn't know until a Nike rep told me he would be using the new Sumo. Then all day on Saturday the announcers kept saying how incredibly confident K.J. was driving! How incredibly straight he was, and how he was at the top of his driving game.... Nike must be really happy with that debut. (Chaa-ching)

Yeah as soon as i heard the sound of his driver on saturday i new he was using something new.. wow, bombing it long and straight having the longest drive of the day on a couple holes. Good for him.

sumo or sumo 2?

I've seen both of them and i believe its the sumo 2 which is more square headed?.. to me that would just look wierd at address but watch in 3 years every driver will be square headed.

Its pretty tough to miss a driver that looks like that. From what I can gather these clubs help you drive it pretty darned strait.

It looked like a vacuum cleaner on the end of his shaft but sure was long and straight. He didn't miss a fairway that I saw. In fact he split most of them!

No, but it doubles as a plate for your meal at the halfway house. Utensils can be ordered separately, but everyone knows real sasquatches just use their fingers.

they're both squared heads, sumo 2 being the more of the 2.

I wouldn't call the non-square one square. It looks pretty round to me.

If Nike would have just named SUMO^2 "Sponge bob" it would have been much better. Soon we will see SUMO^3 and SUMO^4 LOL

    • Par is just a guideline, a reference for a hole or a course. At the end of the tournament the player that took less strokes to hole out is the winner, no matter how much it is against the Par of the course.  35 under par is not desirable? then change a few holes par.. make all reachable par 5's as par 4's.  Every hole below 350 is a par 3.. This will make those 7200 courses play "harder" with a par of 66..67.  (Ridiculous, let's just appreciate the amazing game this players have).
    • Didn't Mike Souchak (and possibly others as I'm just going by memory, but I'm pretty sure Souchak was first) shoot a 257 years ago?  It wasn't on a par 73, so it wasn't 35 under, but still.

    • Sounds like you're trying to prune gorse.  Seems as if gorse can actually throw its needles at anyone nearby!
    • BTW - The bush was ugly.  Anyway, in an attempt to add some clarity the ball was under some of the branches of the bush. But the bush was shaped in such a way where a left handed player could have played the shot without hitting any of the branches. A right handed player would have no chance. Thus my buddy/opponent I think was "reasonable" in addressing the ball with a flipped over 7 iron as he could have hit it lefty. .... There was, however, no guarantee that he would get good results as I've actually never seen him try to hit a ball in that manor in all the years I've played with him.
