th85, I'm going to go against my usual trend and suggest you change it. Just weaken it a little and move on. It's not that hard and in your case it is causing issues with your swing, including getting under plane at P2 (which doesn't help to keep your swing short at all - you'll re-route and cross the line).

You're in the 10% where a quick grip change matters.

Alright... I'll work on that next then, as well as the drill you gave earlier iacas.

Alright, here we go again guys... as it's been lately, 4 new videos of my swing... driver and 6 iron, each with a FO and DL view.  I've worked pretty hard on weakening my grip due to the recommendation of Harmonious and iacas and think it's getting there... also, I've worked on shortening the swing a bit... I think it's coming along but, at least to me I don't see a big difference between the videos.  What I have definitely notice a difference in is ball flight... it is definitely more consistent, which is obviously good, but now my "good" shots are pull or straight fades instead of push draws and my bad shots are just more exaggerated (they start even further left and come back further right).

As always, feedback is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I've noticed this too... any good drills or anything you can recommend to help me achieve this?

hmm off the top of my head. Try going to the top of your swing and make sure both of your hands are directly in line with each other (at the top), so the club would be pointing straight down the line at the top. Just hold it there and get that feeling of the club being straight down the line. You might need someone to help you do this as well. Have them put you into that position at the top and then have you hold there by yourself and ingrain the feeling of it.

I took some new video today.  During my last few practice sessions I've found better consistency by widening my stance just a bit and also increasing my shoulder tilt at address.  I think things are getting better but would love to hear input.  Thanks in advance.

It might help if you tell people what you're struggling with. Hook, slice, fat, thin, all of the above etc?

i am seeing the hands coming in deep, good thing!  however, i am also seeing the clubhead (and shaft) come in even deeper.  not so good.

when the club is parallel to the ground (P2) it should also be about parallel to the target line.  so from the DTL view, the clubhead should just about cover the hands and be parallel to the ground at the same time.

It's been a bit over a month since I've updated this thread so I took some new video today.  Driver and 6 irons both DL and FO...

Top of swing.jpg

This is something that I've been working on... I think that it's getting better, but obviously more work to do... I think that as I get better with not taking the club inside so much, this will improve with it.

I'm trying really hard not to let the club get too deep... obviously this is still to much but it is a tad better... this little change that is barely noticeable feels HUGE when I'm actually swinging.

Also, I think that my impact position is looking much better... I think that I'm doing a better job sliding my hips rather than turning right away.  Note the position of my back knee.

As always, any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated.  Thanks.

Tempo: If you feel your too quick at the top thru transition, practice having an extended pause at the top. Eventually you will notice a smoother transition and tempo.  But keep in mind that everyone has there own tempo, as long as it doesn't get you off balance work with what you got.  And I agree about your right arm breaking down!

The Biggest thing I see is how far back you are going with your club head. You can see that out of your left eye you are so far back. If you just cut that swing down to what you might feel is like 75 percent back.Your accuracy will go through the roof. Plus you will be surprised that you will not lose distance. Also give yourself a pause at the top just a sec to stop and let your body and arms get back and under control. also i would trying to stand more erect at address and try to keep that posture. feel like you are sticking your butt out. that will create a more define spine angle for your swing to stay on. Overall it looks great Good luck. Here is a device i purchased that helped me cut down my swing when i first started playing. http://cgi.ebay.com/SWINGYDE-GOLF-SWING-TRAINING-AID-JIM-FLICK-w-DVD-NR-/220770017572?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item3366eb2124

Got some new videos to post... I'm hitting the ball so much better now... if I can avoid the few blow up holes and a few bad decisions I'll be in the 80s quite easily.

Anyways, here they are, let me know what you think.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
