I know whats right. I didnt once ever say that I was going to go in there and take it without telling them I returned it but I did say quite a few times that I wasnt going to do that. Not really looking for someone to validate whats right, just discussion. It would be cool if they gave it to me

It doesn't sound like your intentions were made clear earlier when you returned the first one - why did they re-order the one with the right shaft if you didn't want it? If you did still want it at the time, then they ordered it and so far as I can tell you'd be on the hook to pay them for it. It's not cool to change your mind after they place an order for you.

If you told them at the time you returned the first not to order it again, remind them that they weren't supposed to re-order it and that you got your money back so that wedge is theirs (and what THEY do with it is up to them - maybe one of the guys there will buy it at cost or something, or they can return it for credit, or you never know).

"They're a multi-million dollar company" doesn't matter for squat. Stop rationalizing theft. You're a golfer: do the honorable, fair, honest thing. There's no "let's see what he says" in this - YOU must bring it upon yourself to do the right thing, not "see what you can get away with" or something.

They didn't re-order it, he just returned it. The employee that he returned it too made the stupid mistake of not logging it in the inventory. Now they have a club just sitting there that still "belongs" to him because they didn't log it in the inventory when it was returned. I don't really know how that could be possible because he probably had to give them a receipt to get it back.

If it was logged in the inventory, the club would probably have been returned to where Dick's got it from. But since it wasn't, it's sitting there and they think he hasn't picked it up.

No one on here said it was the right thing to do. But, it's likely not illegal if he takes it, since there is no record of it belonging to Dick's.

well what happened was I got the club and it had the wrong shaft. I returned it to them and they refunded me. Its the same club I returned to them, I told them not to order me another one because it took so long. Anyway I called them and told them I was refunded for it and I wasnt going to pick it up. The kid was just like oh ok, yea its just been sitting here. I was just a little surpised to hear a voicemail from the kid telling me that I could have it.

Sounds like they asked him what the deal was. A simple, "I returned it and already got my money back" should take care of things.

lol, i wouldnt have the guts nor be stupid enough to take the club in the first place by lying to him. That would be very stupid. For me to take it, I would probably have to have the manager of that section tell me I could have it.

Yeah-doesn't seem to matter how many people point this out, he clearly wants someone to validate the decision to "accept" the club because Dick's couldn't possibly know what to do with it. If he calls them and says "it's not mine, I returned it, and I got my money back" and they still insist they can't do anything with the club, then by all means he should take it off their stupid hands. But I doubt it would go down that way.

I for one have enough bad karma following me around to share with anyone that wants some, so my decision would be easy. A very similar thing happened to me a while back at Joe's, I was looking for a set of clubs and as a beginner focused in on the Adams over sized irons and hybrid sets, our Joe's (which is now gone) had a set that was their last one, the manager made me a good deal and boxed them up, when I got home and unboxed them it had an extra Idea 4 hybrid, I called the manager back and told him I would drop it off the next day, he said it must have been part of a broken up set or a return and he couldnt sell it by itself so to just keep it, cool, I put it in my wifes bag. As a side note I love the Adams stuff.

If you are asking us if your getting a club for free without paying for it because of their Dick's sporting store's mistake what should you do?

1) I have to ask you what would you do If you had 15 clubs and you just won the club championship and no one knows about it except yourself, what would you do?

2) If the ball moved on the putting green and no one saw it except you and you need this one stroke to make it pass Q school after your 3rd try, what would you do?

There is only one simple answer between right and wrong.
