I am looking at a set of Hogan Apex irons that were used often for one year by a pro. This guy has been trying to sell them for a while and he is at $150 now. They look decent enough and have new grips. I would just have them for back ups and messing around.

Opinions on the club quality? I admit the draw is somewhat the novelty of owning some Apexes and the challenge of using them.

Which BH Apex are you talking about? Regardless I really like all of their clubs. Think I struck the ball best with my Apex Edge cavity backs with their Apex #4 shaft. I think I sold mine for about that price as well so I think you are getting a fairly good deal.

They look to be a type of blade and no other name possibly forged. S300 shafts and new grips. I have not emailed the guy, and I am up in the air on whether or not I should buy them.

It sounds like a great deal to me. If the clubs are in good shape, which I'd assume seeing as they've been used for a year, and have good shafts and brand new grips I'd go for it. Just an S300 shaft with a grip will cost you around 15$. Assuming they are 3-PW, you're paying 4 dollars for a very nice forged head.

I play the Apex Plus (a slight cavity back) and they are awesome. If they are in good condition, $150 is a good price.

After seeing the pictures, I'd say it's a very good price for the clubs. They have a good shaft in them, new Multi-Compound grips and are good heads. And if you like them. You could always put the shorter irons in play...

I've got some BH apex plus irons also. Great clubs. go for it.

It looks like refurbished clubs from about 1985-1990 ...... still might be nice just to have (collect).

I am only on the fence about starting a collection of irons. I am not much of a collector and would probably use them, not all the time but if I hadn't bought my pings I would buy these for full time use. I know he is having a time of it selling them so I am taking my time on the decision.

Go for it!.....They look terrific. At that price they won't be around long......and they aren't made anymore.

There seem to be Dynamic Golds in them, which is quite uncommon (would have expected Hogan 4 or 5) ..... pro's tend to practice a lot, the faces look loke new, at least not as worn after you'd expect after a year of pro use.

To me these irons look as a nice project a guy might have had, buying some old Hogans, put new shafts in, new grips on, and then discovered he couldn't handle them ..... now trying to sell these not so original set. Still at the price he's asking ..... in might be a sound investment just for fun, but it is not a collector set, the way it is now.....

They are dynamic golds and I would not buy them to collect for money, mostly to use on the GC and see how they feel. I am going to email him today about it.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
