I got the wife into golf this past year and want to surprise her with a custom putter for Christmas. I don't have a firm opinion on who to go with. Thought I would ask here for some suggestions. Only requirement is that it be left handed. I wanted to get her a Rife like I have, but most models of Rife that I like only come in R handed versions. Behind Rife, I like Scotty's 2nd best. But for what they cost, I can get a custom putter that she will value far more. So that brings me here tonight.

Looking for an anser style putter with a small flower engraved/painted somewhere on it. A tatoo her and her twin sister got while working in Hawaii. Nothing over the top. Maybe her name on it. Something that conveys, "this is just for you". 350-370 grams. Pink or purple metallic finish options would be appealing, but certainly not a requirement. Looking to spend $300-400.

Any suggestions?

If you want to go really custom, look into Sunset Beach: http://ssbeachgolf.com/?page_id=240 They can do all types of finishes (including a white finish that has been big this year), hosels, colors, and tons of stamping. And they start at $270 which is not bad. Their website doesn't specifically mention left handed, but I would be very surprised if they couldn't do it, I would call them or email them to find out.

In my bag:

Dude, that is too weird. The putter you linked is the Southport. My parents have a weekend/retirement home there. Dang. Small world. Also, the company name, Sunset, that is the beach where my wife's family has vacationed since she was a kid. Freaking crazy coincidence. Looking over the site now. I notice Lamont works with them, he is in Arizona. Not sure what the connection is, but seems like many miles away.

TP Mills and maybe Machine putters might pull off what you want. Shot them an email. If I ever decided to get a custom putter those would be my choices.

Edit: After looking, to get customization it may be out of the $400 range for these 2 makers. Never hurts to ask em though.

Doing your own paintfill is SUPER easy. I've done my own before. Just some patience and some toothpicks, nail polsih remover or similar solvent, etc. So.... look for the style you want, go for it, then get some enamel model paint from a local hobby shop ($1-$3 per bottle - tiny little things) and have a go at it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sunset Beach didn't have but 2 models in left handed models. Will look at them. Also, C&L; Mills has some nice stuff. Byron, TP, many good choices it seems. But the latter two I mention seem like big companies and may have big wait times. Found out about Yamada hand milled puttters in Japan. Rave reviews from the few owners I heard from. But not custom really, you can't personalize them which is part of the goal for my wife's putter. But they do look amazing. Especially the burnt copper 85092 Masushi? Tempted to buy one for myself.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
