Why can't people edit their posts after a certain amount of time?

I made a mistake in one of my threads but can't correct it because of this

My Clubs
Driver - LV4 10* R flex

Because the time frame we've set is long enough to be useful but not so long that someone can make a comment and "change history" by changing it well later.
