From now on the juniors at my club will have to play off the yellows not the mens tees.
Some of the 28 handicappers weren't able to play off their handicap so now instead of playing off the blues we all have to play off the yellows.

What do you think about this?

If we're going to enter competitions against other clubs we'll be playing off the blues.
I'm seriously considering joining another club next year.

Can you provide a little context? What's a yellow or blue tee box where you live?

yellow's is next to the womens tees.

Blues is back another 20m probably a bit more.

Learn to love your long irons - make it harder on yourself through club selection so you can compete at the other courses.

That's pretty terrible, I guess they're classing anyone under 18 as juniors? I'd do what sean_miller suggests, take shorter clubs off the tee to leave long irons into greens etc.

I'd definitely think about finding another club for next year though, this is a pretty stupid judgement on your current club's part.

Who came up with this idea? Can you appeal it? Seems like you may need two flights for the juniors.

Should be based on Handicap not Age. We have a kid at our course who is a +1.2 - I cant imagine forcing him to play short tees. Time to talk to some of the members at the course and see if you can get it changed. Good luck

I'm sure there are many others at your club that aren't happy with this. Don't see this guideline adhered to or lasting a long time.

Lots of people play off the wrong tee's. I am not sure handicap* or age limits should be set. I play with plenty of older guys who are single digits, that play a from the middle or forward tee's as they don't have the distance to get on in regulation from on of the back tee boxes (we have 5 sets of tee's). They can't hit it more then 190 with driver, which means they can't even reach the longer par 3's from the back two tee boxes. Then there is mid capper like me, I can hit it long enough to reach half of the par fives in two from the tips at my home course, if I do play the next tee box up the old guys cry "foul".

* as for handicaps I am favour of setting limit of say 20ish before you can start moving back, as if you are a 25 cap, even if you can hit the odd one long enough to play the back tees, you likely are way to erratic

Those old guys don't sound like real single digits.

This. In fact, if you can get back some portion of your membership fees for what's left of this season, and can join another club, do so.

Either way, when you leave, be sure to let your old club know why you left. If they try to maintain you as a member -- many clubs are hurting for members these days - get the offer in writing that, if you stay, you can play any set of tees you like (with some clause like a payment to you of the season's fees without loss of course privileges, each time you're removed from your choice tees, etc)

He's probably paying a reduced membership right now. Maybe if he agrees to pay the difference he can play from the men's tee.

Possibly. I wonder if the marshalls know who has and hasn't paid the full membership fee. It also might be significantly more than the junior rate.

it's not a snobby club by any means.

Men pay 400 euro a year. Juniors only have to pay 50. What's interesting is that they've really been pushing to get juniors in, this was the first year the club had a team and they gave us all club gear. The only reason they got good juniors this year was because my old club closed and most of us moved here.

Wow. I pay $1200 per year. full adults pay $3500. 50 euro wouldn't even get you 1 round on my course. You are getting some serious bargain.

just gun everyone else off the front tees. maybe hit a few long irons off the tee to mimick where your usual driver would be

Stupid rule but then I've never known a club yet that didn't have a significant number of stupid people involved in the Club rules.

Can you join another club as a junior and if so, would this incur a joining fee? If not, I'd say this has to be a serious consideration.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
