So this golf store thats about 1 hour and 35 minutes from me has a scotty cameron studio style newport 2 putter thats used for 150.00. Its my size and she said the condition is great, no nicks. Im actually looking for a newport 2 style pre studio select model. I think 150.00 is a good price, think I should make the drive for it?

what do you guys think of the price and can you negotiate price on used clubs at stores?

Sitting 3+ hours in the car for a $150 second hand putter, if she says it is good, just mailorder it if you want it, at that price you can allways sell it if you don't like it.

i know the price is good, hmm maybe I could mailorder it but I was thinking I could get a good deal if I tried trading in my redwood too. Like ask them if I trade the redwood and give them 50.00? I dont know what they would say but its worth a shot. Do you guys ever wheel and deal at golf stores

If you are buying new equipment, you can try to trade in your putter for $100, but at a $150 second hand putter, there is no room for adventure. They can sell the Scotty any day without a trade and they want to make a margin on the Scotty .....

Look up the Redwood's value on PGA.com. They will not give buy it from you for more value than it is worth. It just won't happen.

your probably right, The redwood is listed at 65 pga value, the scotty studio style newport 2 is listed at 67. hmmm Im definitly going to work the price down

actually forget it, I think I might just drive there. shipping would cost the same and I would be able to deal in person

For the value you would buy it for in a store you need to look under the resale value, the "blue book of golf":

http://valueguide.pga.com/detail-exe...%20Newport%202 For the Scotty it is $111, and you should only expect to get $65 for the Redwood. I guess they are charging a little over value, but there is no guarantee they will come down in price because it's a Scotty, and there's a good chance someone will buy it for $150.

Factor in gas on that trip and your $150 scotty suddenly doesn't look like that great of a deal to me. There's so many deals out there that I wouldn't even bother driving if they would ship it I might be interested.

well I just picked it up. It's nice, got the original cameron grip, good condition. Headcover is in perfect condition surprisinly. I talked him down to 140, so 10 off. Pretty good IMO, ebay they are expensive. Original price on it was 175, lol. Il post a pic later

Didn't you pretty much just get your Redwood? I may be completely mistaken, but if you got rid of it that fast, why did you buy it in the first place? Why did you buy this Scotty Cameron now? Sounds like you have putting issues and your money would be better spent on a lesson or two than on gas money to get a new premium putter D:

yea I got it a few months ago. I putt really good with all the putters I've had. I just like the sole of the older newport 2's, so I wanted to try it

The putter is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. I say go see it, putt with it, then decide. Not far from you and if you see it in person you will be able to make up your mind immediately. I say go for it. I have two 1995-ish Scotty newport 2 teryllium putters and they are great. $150 sounds good assuming the putter is in good shape. Lay eyes on it and see what you think.

heres a pic of it, The reason why I wanted to get the newport 2 is because its basically Titleists version of the anser 2 which was my first putter that I really liked. I got the redwood without really looking into the newport line. I can putt good with either the redwood or this newport 2. I just prefer the sole and head of the newport 2 I got over the original anser. I always said if the redwood series would of made a anser 2 then it would be perfect. Heres a couple pics. The metal is really really soft on it seems. the owner obviously took good care of it, has like 2 nicks but the metal is really soft.

Congrats, it looks in great shape. I bought the same one pre-owned from GlobalGolf. My putting has improved significantly since I switched from the Rossa Corza Ghost to it. Now if I miss it's more because I mis-read the greens than not feeling the distance.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
