Today I finally got my first birdie! I am so happy! (6th round ever in my life)

It was a 376 yards par 4.
Shot 1 - Longer than usual (250yrd) #3 Hybrid shot from tee box, landed on fairway with 3 monster bunker in front of me.
Shot 2 - Perfect Pw lay up shot, flew over 3 monster bunkers and landed 1 ft away from the hole.
Shot 3 - Birdie putt!!

Best week of my life in golf: broke 100 three days ago, and first birdie today! Actually this week I'm experiencing some difficulties in life, but I am glad that my performance on course did not get affected.

Feels good breaking 100. Keeps you coming back for more.
Now you need to try to break 95 or 90.
Now see how long it takes you to get to birdies in a round or your first eagle.

Sweetness. Good job.

Well done man, it took me nearly 2 years to get my first and I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
Best week in my life in golf you say, but you forgot to say " so far"
Keep it up man.

I am truly envious! 250 yds with a hybrid! I need a driver for that, and I've already played 18 years...

On the other hand, I made my first birdie on my second round of 9 holes. Birdied hole #1, par4, about 330 meters. Total gross score was 64 so it did not go as well as the beginning... Still have the score card

However all my clubs are only about a month old. I started about 4 months ago with a set of cheap clubs bought on amazon for $150. Pretty broke right now after building my bag, but it's worth it.

It think it was a mis-hit. The ball flight was low, so I believe it has less spin and rolled at least 30 yards on the fairway. My good driver shot is usually 240 yards, max 260 yards. So I am surprised that my hybrid went that far.

congrats. i don't even remember how long it was before i got my first birdie. it took me a good long while just to get a par, though i think my first birdie followed my first par in pretty short order, but yeah... it was at least two or three months after i started before the bird landed.

Congrats my friend.

Nothing like walking off the green with a birdie in hand. Completely satisfying. Now string together some birds and pars in a row and watch those scores drop.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Congrats... did you save the ball?

I started around april of this year-- and got my first birdie in June. (but none since then....lol)

Today i broke 97--- (had 2 birdie putt misses...) beating my previous best score at my home course of 102 that i did several weeks ago.

Congrats......!!

Congrats! Great job! My wife got her first birdie 2 seasons ago on the first round she ever played on a 'real' golf course. Before that, we had only played par-3 courses for a few months. She made a 15ft downhill putt on a par-3. I missed my birdie putt on the same hole from about 5ft shorter.

    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.

    • Thanks man, sometimes it’s hard to improve bc when I’m not feeling comfortable I don’t like practicing bc I get frustrated. Any advice?
