Lately I have taking some pretty deep divots and get really low trajectory with my short irons and wedges. Which leads me beleiving I have a fairly steep plane. Well here's theproblem. When I try to fix it and try and get deep hands and get more of a turn around me rather than up and vertical, it makes for some nasty hooks.. any help here?

Where is the ball flight starting?  Right of the target, at the target or left of the target?

I think your club is getting stuck behind you and below the intended downswing plane.  Make sure that your club is outside of your hands on the takeaway and not behind you on the way up creating a reverse loop.

This is all assuming that you're hook is a duck hook/pull hook, from what you have said so far.

good luck

Well thats a problem... for a couple of reasons. First, a clubface that is square or left of the target at impact is generally going to flight the ball lower than a clubface that is right of target. Secondly, if your path isn't 0'd out you are going to be working the ball away from target rather than into.

My suggestion, try opening the clubface a little at address and see what happens. Hopefully that narrows face path differential (less movement), gets the ball started right, and adds some loft.

I can get into the same problem at times. I have a tendency to have the left hand get too strong...and then the clubhead is "behind my hands" at P2 instead of out in front. In videos, you can see it right away and also see the closed clubface at P4. This creates an "extreme" inside out path with the clubface square to the target but really closed to the path. Ball flight laws then apply. I agree with previous posts.

Clubface open slightly at address (for push/draw)

Check for a strong grip...neutralize it slightly if needed

Keep the hands going in, back and up while the club head stays outside your hands

Maintain the flying wedge past impact

Apply to the PGA Tour for Q-school

All the best

Lots of good responses so far.  I agree with trying to open the face some at address.  Also try to swing with a glove or tees under your left arm or both arms.  Gets the hands in and keeps them working on the circle back and through, orbiting the body.  If the hands swing too far out to the right on the thru swing, arms disconnected shoot out right, that will put more of the draw curve on it.

    • Day 49. Played 9 from tees a bit beyond my comfort zone and was humbled. Hit a couple good shots so will take that at least.
    • +12 47, and never lost a ball or had a penalty. Got the snap hooks off the tee for the first 3 holes. So, playing the punch out game. Probably had like 20 putts. Bad short game day. The greens were weirdly firm but slow. I just don’t get spin out of the rough. I had a SW, with good height hit middle half of the green and end up almost off the back of the green. I know what I was doing with the full swing. Bad habits creeping in.
    • 9 years and counting. Lil chipped paint here and there but still going strong. Also have an 18 deg driving iron that I got a couple of years ago which is doing well too. @iacastried it and I think he liked it.
    • For PING to assemble and ship it? It's a 3H. Yea, the new club has more loft. How do you like that, 2H?
    • Then go on gitchu a brand spanking new 2H son.. what are you waiting for?
