Well, maybe not cheating, but makes you look like an asshat in front of friends.

"Yeah I normally shoot in the 70s"

Then proceed to shoot an 88 on a course you don't know.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it gives you a more accurate handicap.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

That I completely understand.

I've never met a person who has any idea what they're handicap is, so I forget that there are people who do know lol.

Chester le street golf course, in Durham, England.

This is from the tee box on the 2nd hole.

Dog leg left, up hill towards Lumley Castle.

And this is the castle - now used as a wedding venue / hotel.

It is named for its original creator, Sir Ralph Lumley , who converted his family manor house into a castle in 1389 after returning from wars in Scotland . However, after being implicated in a plot to overthrow Henry IV he was imprisoned and ultimately executed, forfeiting his lands to the Earl of Somerset .

A common course of mine, Stonewater GC in Highland Heights, Ohio. Here's hole 17 a par 3 over water.

I'll be playing there tomorrow for the first time.

A lot of water, but most of the holes set up nicely for my slight driver fade.

Single digit handicap

I've been there. I hope to get back again for a round later this year. Jimmy Hanlin's a good guy. They just went private, I think, no?

This summer, I've added 4 courses to my normal rotation as I signed up for a summer league.

They are:

The Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West

The Greg Norman Course at PGA West

La Quinta Resort Mountain Course

La Quinta Resort Dunes Course

In addition to those four I also regularly play both courses at Terra Lago (I still consider this to be my "home" course), SilverRock, and The Classic Club.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I felt bad to break par after shooting two consecutive 71's on my former home course, Cedar Point Golf Club, a par 72 layout in Maryland. Okay not really, but I still felt like I couldn't mark them down as legitimate rounds since I was playing alone.  Yeah, things got weird in my head when playing with no competition or attestors. Then factor in how well I knew the course at the time too. I shot a 75 from the championship tees during the club championship I competed in that same year. I'm still more proud of that than the two breaking par rounds that preceded it (1980).

Golf kept me close to my father during the four years in the 1960's that I worked for him on weekends as his caddy. I didn't play then, but later did start playing once he insisted "it was time". It's been a joy ever since.

i play a course called majestic oaks here in minnesota. they have 3 courses: signature (nice, little long though, i think it was 7000 last time i played), crossroads (like a municipal course), and a 9 hole executive course with 2 par 4s.

i bought an $80 card so i can play 18 with a cart on the crossroads whenever for $18 including tax. the executive with the card is $6, and i think the signature is $32 with a cart. without the card it's $50 with a cart to play the crossroads.

i played other courses around me, but the value, variety, and proximity made this my de facto course.

now if they would stop hosting massive private tournaments all the time i would get more rounds in.

My home course is Mill Creek Country Club http://millcreek.cc , designed by Ted Robinson, (who also designed Sahalee among 160+ other courses) it's a great course, has great practice facilites, driving range, club house, etc.... And since it's private you don't run into hackers and slow players very often so that's nice too...

This weekend our group from Knoxville, TN will be playing a 3 day tournament at Rarity Pointe and Rarity Bay in Lenoir City, TN and Egwani Farms in Maryville, TN. Both are beautiful courses. Also like playing Dead Horse Lake in Knoxville.

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
