It's called XBOX 360. Just kidding, PIP? (picture in picture?) I am all in favor of seeing the flight of the ball and protracer is pretty cool but what I would be concerned about is the telecasts would be tricked up and watching a golf event would turn into some sort of video game like broadcast. I'm not some big traditionalist that is afraid of change but I can just see network execs sitting there with a focus groups of Jersey Shore rejects trying to figure out how to use the technology to capture this "up and coming" target audience. I realize I am overstating this a bit but you can see where adding "enhanced" features of a broadcast can lead. One of the appeals of televised golf for me is it's the opposite of a NFL broadcast where everything is the greatest thing ever in the history of Western Civilization therefore must be screamed out to make sure you didn't miss it. Just saying.

I know what you're saying there...but I'm just talking about a camera angle and position.

I don't want golf on TV to become like football for sure....I simply just want some landscape in the shot so I know what the dang ball did!  It just seems so simple to me.

Those who have 3D, what does the ball flight from behind the player look like? One day, the tech for remote planes/helicopters/VSTOLs will be good enough to put an HD camera on. I hope someone tries it on a golf course.

Yes, it's amazing. But it reinforces just how good these guys are and how, as hard as I work, I'll never be that. I'd rather have shots poorly tracked on the fly and be allowed to keep my dreams.

I know exactly what you mean, its hard for me to watch golf on TV for this exact reason, I can never see where the darn ball goes off the tee and most fairway shots, basically making it worthless to watch for half the program.  My idea though was to have the tv peoples tech team put a highlighted color on the ball as it traveled like they tried in the NHL back in like 2001, for tracking the puck.  In any case I just don't understand why people would want to watch a bunch of guys walk around a park in neat clothes for a few hours....I want to see the shots, thats about it....If you do get a petition going to golf channel count me in......

Could some of the inability to show the ground and the ball in the air in the same frame be due to camera/lens limitations? You would need a really wide field of view to see the ground and a ball 80 ft in the air. I believe the shot-tracer cameras have special lenses?
