This is something I discover when I started playing and it really improved my putting.

All you need is 2 small rods "can be found at any local hardware store" the ones I have here come in a 36" 1/8"

piece that I cut down to two 12" pieces. A 6 or so foot piece of thin string or yarn.

Tie the each end of the string to the top of the rod. Then place one rod 2" behind the cup in the center and place the other rod so that the string is strech out like a cloth's line.

Place the ball and the middle of your putter directly under the line and hit away. You will be supprised at how many you will make.

Make sure you find a fairly flat area on the practice green to do this. The drill helps you with alignment and how you see the putt.

I take chopsticks home from Chinese restaurants to make mine. Definitely one of the best basic training aids out there. If you ever watch the pro WITB segments on the PGA website, almost every one of them has some variety of putting line stuck in a side pocket.

I've got a 9 foot roll-out putting mat that I just put on the floor.  It's a dead straight putt with lines all over it to help your aim.  I hole 100 in a row from the 7-foot mark pretty regularly.  That's a sure-fire way to groove your stroke...however it looks!  No construction, and you can do it at home every day.

Looks good, my living room floor has some slight break in it though lol I'll have to try this on the practice greens.

The floor in our spare bedroom is like the 16th at Augusta. I should paint it green.

I use a couple of steel shish kabob skewers for my raised string line. For at home practice I use a couple of 2 liter soda bottles filled with water and tie the string to the neck. Works great and really helps you practice getting your eye over the ball.

Another great at home putting aid is a 4ft steel carpenter's ruler. Usually they have a hole at one end for hanging on the wall - cover the hole with a piece of tape but let the tape indent slightly. Put the ball on the taped hole and putt trying to roll the ball down the entire length of the ruler. This really helps you practice setting up square (using the end of the ruler as a guide) and you will know immediately if you strike the putt square as that's the only way to keep it on the ruler. If your floor is not quite level you can shim up the ruler with old business or playing cards. Combine this with the raised string line and you've got a great system for practicing your aim, stance, and hitting the ball where you aim.

If you'e putting to a hole with break, aim the string along your intended starting line. It also helps you learn about your green-reading skills, as the line you see in the first place may not be the correct line. You can then adjust the string to match the correct line with the pace you put on the putt.

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
