Im curious, Can I gain more distance from a shaft?

Im currently playing a PING G15 driver with a stiff Aldila "Serrano" shaft (supposedly low kick). I get about 230-250 of carry (Hard to determine exactly what my average "carry" is). And its a 9* loft.

The reason Im asking this is because recently I have tried two different drivers that I liked and that I could visibly see have a little more carry distance than my current driver. The R9 TP super deep and the Adams Speedline 9064LS. BOTH have the new Aldila RIP shaft. Im wondering if these drivers feel better and go farther for me because of the shaft??? I know that the shaft is just as much a part of the club as the head, but could it be possible that one can gain me distance from a particular shaft? Ive never been officially "fit for a shaft," but I know which shafts ive had good luck with. Aldila and UST have been good to me. Wondering if I should throw the RIP shaft on my PING G15 or just get a new driver. Hahaha

Thanks for the input in advance.

The 9064 is a hot driver. Guys on the LDA are using these basically off the shelf and having success with them. I have been debating buying the Ping G15 or the 9064 myself.

I noticed that this year. Obviously their shafts are different. Stiffer, longer, etc…

Im really thinking about getting one. I don't think ill get rid of my PING. Ive been using it for almost a year now, but if I can find something better, I guess I should "trade up." Thats why I was wondering more if the shaft would help or a whole new club?

I have direct access to the Adams rep thru my club (he's a member too). SO I get some pretty sweet deals on Adams stuff. I don't know if it beats eBay, but ill have to check.

SVT,

You got to know your current Data from a launch monitor to get more distance from a shaft.   Do you need more launch angle?   Do you need less?

Increase backspin?   Blablabla...... then decide which shaft can be a match for your current driver.

The formula is like this:  Correct Driver Loft + Correct Driver Shaft flex + Correct Driver Shaft model + Correct Swing Technique = Max. Distance

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
