I recently bought a new set of irons and I need them to be gripped because I have big hands. The local pro/ my instructor told me I need bigger grips because small grips cause a change in my swing. My question is what size, and or brand, should I go with? I'm 17 years old and probably will grow some more, if that changes anything. Thanks for the help.

here's a general size chart. i would wear an XL and i use midsize pure grips. the brand and grip style will be personal depending on firmness and tackiness so you should try out several different kinds. but you will deffinently want to try the midsize or jumbo grips

ugh, I wear a medium glove and was told I was between a mid and jumbo. Is that possible? I didn't think I was a mid size and asked many time at different stores but was told and measured mid sized. So annoying I guess when I go for a new driver I will ask for a club fitting. Going to be so pissed to have all my clubs re-done if that is the case.

Usually a Club Fitting shop has a sample of their grips.   You should try different size of their samples before regripping your irons.

Also a club fitter can use a Standard size grip and make it thicker by using more tapes.

a good rule of thumb to see if you have the proper size is if your lower hand (right for righty) middle and ring finger barely touches the pad of your palm under the thumb. if your nails or fingers dig in and feels like you could be holding the club too tight, they are too small. if the fingers are too spread from the palm and your release motion feels restricted, they are too big.

Your best bet is to get fitted.

A good club fitter will fit your grip first and everything else last. Go visit your local golf shop. Ask the PGA pro there to give you 2 minutes of his time.

You can print a measuring tool on the lamkin website, that helps you decide on the correct size !  I treated myself to their Crossline Tour Navy Blue grips.  Installed them myself on my Mizuno irons to replace the old GP tour velvets.  Couldn't be happier !  Really no contest between the two !

A registered Pro in any shop should be able to suggest something for you. I wear a Large glove but have never liked the feel of Mid-Sized or Over-Sized grips. Winn is my preferred grip but there are so many out there you will be sure to find one you like.

    • Just exaggerating the crap out of sending the club head back and behind me in the downswing.  just trying to learn how to feel the club head working down back and under my hands into impact. It’s been a battle against the steepening pattern.  most of the time, as soon as I initiate torso, turn the right hand just wants to twist over the left and steep in the club to send the club out towards the ball. 1. Back swing looks better and it’s getting easier to not have to think as much about it. Lots of maintaining the hands in front of my torso as I turn.  2. From A2.5 to A5, its juts trying to flip the wrists over and drop them down. Trying to keep the right palm up as much as possible. Then pray I can turn to hit the ball.

    • Thank you, sir.  As I sit here right this moment I'm mentally gearing up for Wednesday Night golf league. I'm stoked to play as I'll be very curious if I've found something real or if it's just a blip on the radar.
    • That is a 9.8 differential if my calculations are correct. That would be an exceptional score if it is 7.0 less than your handicap index. Congrats
    • I believe that @billchao has suggested that I fall into this category.  .... Although technically I believe he referred to me as an "ass-clown". ... Which at the time seemed like a compliment. 🤷‍♂️
