My 3 wood is an off brand, which may represent why I mentally (any perhaps physically) struggle with it - granted I need to put the time into getting proficient with it this year.      I'd like to upgrade to a better 3 wood & one that is reputed to be easier to hit /more forgiving.      I've heard the Ping 3 wood gets high marks as being forgiving ... just looking for any other recommendations on what latest generation 3 wood I should look for to maximize my chances of actually being able to hit the thing - thx.

I have a Ping G15 4W (17.5*) and I love it.  I think most of the 3W in the game improvement category will be as forgiving as the next and it comes down to what is pleasing to your eyes and what sound you like at impact. And more important than which brand is which shaft.  Get fitted for the right shaft to get the most consistency out of any club.

I would also recommend looking at 4W instead of 3W.  The potential loss of yards is certainly offset by the slight forgiveness of a more lofted club.  There was an article last year in Golf Digest I believe, that talked about the advantages of a 4W over a 3W.  You can search the forum and find plenty of discussion on that.

Good luck.

Thanks - I haven't given a 4W alot of thought.     Might be a great compromise for someone of my lacking skill level ...

You have a 17° hybrid which is the same loft as a 4-wood. Consider going with what you got!

I know im a high capper but my 3 wood is my favorite club in the bag it is awesome to me. I use a cleveland hibore xls which you can find for pretty cheap and in my opinion it is easy to hit off the tee and off the deck.

True, I just don't like hitting the hybrids off a tee - much rather hit a wood.     One more thing I need to work on ...

^ awesome - never saw an Adams hybrid 3W ...  that would be a perfect match to my 2 & 3 Adams hybrids.      I'll have to look into that - THANKS !

I had a 17* hybrid and dropped it for a true 17* 4wd.  The 4wd was just easier for me to hit for some reason.

I've never had a 3-wood I couldn't hit, so I've been lucky. Actually that's not true, I had a Ram persimmon that I kept undercutting and popping up, a hand-me-down Slazenger that I couldn't hit straight if my life depended on it, and a little MacGregor with a sweet spot the size of a water molecule. Other than that, they were all awesome!!

no, there's no consensus.  there are too many combinations of clubhead/shaft/grip for there to be a "consensus".  but you'll find what works for you if you keep looking.

    • No. If there was a place no closer to the hole that afforded some relief, you could have dropped there. If you were truly as far away from the hole as you could, in the "back" of the bunker, then… your options were basically to play it as it lies (lied? lay?) or take the penalty stroke and drop behind the bunker (keeping the point where the ball was between your drop and the hole).
    • Day 121 - Had a tournament today, not my best. I was hitting everything off the heel.
    • Day 4 (5 May 24) - mirror work focused on “feel of weight” transfer onto lead foot.  Continued work to develop trust in lead foot being able to handle full weight pressure…
    • Ok, so I’m still confused here. Are you saying I could have used the only available Spot in the bunker even though it was 6-7 feet closer to the hole?
    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
