The birth of a child is a very special event in a person's life. You welcome a new life into the world and rejoice with family members. Having said that I would still choose Augusta. I mean come on its Augusta National!

Ha! Having hit a hole in one, and been present at the birth of my first son, I would DEFINITELY choose birth. And I KNOW that I would NOT give up my hole in one for a day at the Augusta. BIRTH is just so freaking happy. . .

Baby... Augusta... Baby... Augusta...

Slave away at a job 60 hours a week for 60 years as opposed to early retirement, at 35...

Heh, if I had it my way I'd have the baby at Augusta. Two birds with one stone.

I know my wife will never be pregnant again . Thanks to modern medicine . Augusta will only happen once in 24 million golfers life . There would never be a dream come true for any avid golfer than to have the most remotest of a chance ( You have better chance by being hit by lightning) to smell the grass at Augusta . The place where the Godz of golf reside .

You all know that if this did come true and you picked Augusta National the golf gods would punish and you would either have a terrible round or even worse get to the bag drop just as Hootie says, "Sorry, the course is closed because it is too wet to play. See you next time." You know that would happen.

First, I honestly don't see how anyone could enjoy that round of golf considering their wife was bringing another child into the world.

Here is how I see this playing out for everyone here...

What you say:

"Honey, I know that your water just broke, and that the contractions are just a few minutes apart, but I just got this call, and I have a opportunity to play golf at an incredible golf course, this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Could you go ahead and drive yourself to the hospital and I will meet you there after the round."

What she hears:

"Listen, I don't care that your water just broke, and that the contractions are just a few minutes apart, I just got a call, and I am not going to be there for the birth of our child, golf is more important to me than being there for you when our child comes into the world. Drive yourself to the hospital and I will meet you at the hospital after the round."

What she says:

"Honey, that's great, I am so happy for you, go and have a great time! See you at the hospital after the round!"

What she means:

"What, are you kidding me! Are you really that stupid! Do you honestly think that you not being there is okay with me! If you go, you better enjoy that round of golf, because it will be your LAST round of golf.

For me the choice is simple, BABY.

BTW, my wife and I are expecting our second daughter any day now, so this thread hits close to home.

Anybody who says play golf needs to seriously re-evaluate their priorities... and their wife needs to seriously re-evaluate her desire to be married to such an inconsiderate, uncaring schmuck.

It depends on how much child support you can afford to pay . Because you would be telling your spouse divorce me now, I have no clue.

Not only would it be your last round of golf, it would also be your last round period.

(It will be obvious in reading this response: I am one of the ones who voted for playing Augusta over having a kid)

Wait, hold on. What makes my priorities so bad? First of all, I don't want a wife or kid(s), so that may bias my answer somewhat. Maybe I shouldn't have answered the poll, since it specified "wife." Suppose I were in this situation, and my wife were to be upset that I choose Augusta. It isn't (only) that she has to wonder why she's married to someone as inconsiderate and uncaring as I am: I have to wonder why I got married to someone who is so inconsiderate and uncaring to my goals and desires in life. This applies even if I were invited to play a goat track instead of Augusta.

We're talking about a one time chance here. You can always have more babies!

priorities my Son, do you have children? I know personally being in the Labor/Delivery Room for both of my children was the best experience I have every had, NOTHING (not even the Masters) can replace that, then again my Golf game isn't good enough to play there so it makes the choice even easier for me.....

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
