I hit my Ci9's yesterday for the 1st time and I'll tell ya, I don't know why you would want to get rid of them. I've played everything under the sun and as far as performance, these are as good as anything out there in a medium topline and reduced offset GI iron. That's coming from a 12 that hits 75% of his fairways, don't practice much, has a sh*tty short game and putts like he's never read a green in his life.

Since it appears that everyone agrees that MB blades are more difficult to hit than split, or cavity back, why do people opt to use them?  Do golfers actually reach a point where they have to make the switch to continue to improve their game?  Is so, what is that point < 10 handcap, < 5?

We're no one to to give true opinions on what equipment to get, but yes, it seems as with your handicap, blades might be a tough choice. I gotta recommend the Mizuno JPX-800's, holy crap are they nice!

I'd find a few single blades on Ebay first and take them to the range, and see how they feel.

I play Mizuno JPX-800s too.  Very nice irons!

There are many amazing ballstrikers who play on television, for money, that don't use musclebacks. Some of them (GASP) even use CAST clubs, with very generous full cavities. Shocking.

I have to disagree with that. I have seen plenty. We all know the short game is harder to master. Im the opposite. My short game gets me out of the poop. There are tour pros that hit great irons, but dont have a great short game. If they did, they would all have the same short game as Luke Donald, Tiger or Phil, but they dont. I have friends that leak so many shots when it comes to being around the green. Most can hit the driver fine and their irons more than acceptable for their handicap, but have no clue when it comes to hitting a 30m pitch, or a flop shot over a bunker. Swinging a full shot is different to to hitting a bump and run as every chip shot requires a different approach, whereas a shot from the fairway is likely to require the same swing almost every time.
