Why is it that he feels he has to discuss Tiger during every interview. What do you think the chances are he can achieve anything close to Tiger. We all know what has happened and we know where his game is. Why do we need a newcomer to educate us..hijs lack of grace is amazing. He will have his day and we'll see how he handles playing with him. I think he should keep his opinions to himself and try to win golf tournaments...that will be the scale he will be judged on..not his opinion of other players.

I read what he wrote, didn't think it was that bad.  He's a kid and probably doesn't understand that making negative comments in the press about another pro is against protocol.  Westwood said he was going to have a chat with him, which is probably a good idea before the press hits him up for some more headlines at his own expense.

IMO....who cares. I'm sure Tiger doesn't....there are millions of people that hate Tiger, one more person aint gonna make a difference to him.

The only people who really care are us. Funny how that works.

What did he write? It really helps in threads like these when you link to quote the things said or written.

This is your second go at McIlroy, easier to just say you don't like him and move on. This may come as a newsflash, every pro golfer in almost every interview gets asked about Tiger, you can answer with the usual banality for fear of offending the PR machine or actually say what you think. Lack of grace, please, he is a polite young guy with a bit of confidence and a game to match.

You got it wrong in the other thread and have not improved,

1st---Zeph,,,"what did he wrote"??? (lol) I know your command of the English language is better than that--I guess that is why I found it amuzing; just a little kidding and not meant to be serious.

I agree with what Malvern posted.

On the other side of the coin, he is Irish and young.

Hehe, the i and the o are conspicuously close on the keyboard.

Rory has been a big fan of Tiger all his life, something he's said in interviews before. When he first emerged on the European Tour he was awestruck that he might get the chance to play with Tiger. Seeing as everyone else i discussing him, why shouldn't Rory?

Besides, I don't find anything offensive in the "essay".

Quote: Rory McIlroy
It's not that he's playing badly. He's simply playing badly by Tiger's standards. He's playing like an ordinary golfer. People expect more of him because of what he has achieved. As much as I would love to have the success that Tiger has had on the golf course, I wouldn't want to live his life. He has made the same mistakes as any footballer, or NBA or NFL player. Tiger is obviously different from the rest of us because he is a bit of a rock star. But he can't really take his kids to the cinema. It's a tough life because of what he has done and what he represents, being the first African-American golfer to break down the barriers.

Does anyone disagree that Tiger has made some mistakes? Is it outrageous for a young and promising golfer to say he hopes he can stay away from the life Tiger lived? Everyone knows Tiger has made mistakes, he's said so himself. I don't see the problem with other professional golfers commenting on it. How can they not, with all the media attention Tiger got in November last year?

Additionally, the media is always asking them questions about Tiger. For those who frequent the PGA Tour website, you often see interviews with other players where they are asked about Tiger. Just the last week I've seen Nicklaus and Westwood commenting on the curent state of Tigers game and his future.

@Malvern - Have my babies?

Seriously though I agree utterly and completely. ALL pro golfers are confident people, not remembering bad shots and only remembering good ones and how great they are at golf because if they didn't they would second-guess themselves and create issues on the course just as us amateurs do ("Oh crap it's a 75 yard pitch over a bunker, I can't do these!" followed by a lovely shot right into the bunker). Reading any of Bob Rotella's books demonstrates this so if McIlroy is asked about Tiger and says he sees Tiger as someone he can beat now it's not ego talking, it's confidence.

A good analogy I'd draw here would be in the Moto GP. Jorge Lorenzo was a Valentino Rossi fan for many many years and always dreamed to be of his standard. Now he sees Valentino as a rival and someone he can beat and he frequently does. There's nothing disrespectful there; it's just competition at that level.

    • With the hot weather……I’ll take a Gatorade please.
    • 60 minutes on the local school playing fields, trying to discover my former grip,I found it and used a lob wedge with which I was able to group 3 balls pretty near together, very happy to have found my old grip and its give me a lot more confidence so I can go have a round of golf with my brother and his step sons,I have not stepped on a course for 20 years, still I can hit my old yardages and that's great as I'm now 62...everybody have a great day
    • I have this issue as well. I play in a bi-weekly league and I generally work on my drills and feels as I'm playing in the league...lol. But to be honest, they really do not affect me in a bad way too much. If anything, my irons are actually more crisp.  The issue comes in when I transition to the woods....so I try to find a happy medium there for the time being. But as far as bad shots go, they are no worse than they were before worrying about drills and what not.  Just speaking for my experience, obviously.
    • Another good episode. I below its a skill to be able to find a functional swing between where you were and where you want to be. I am guilty of trying to do too much on the course instead of just playing.  The goal is to play golf better. Not turn a round of golf into a practice session.
